Farmington , MO (August 25) -- The O’Reilly POWRi Racing Series invaded the St Francois County Raceway Saturday evening. POWRi sanctions both the 600cc Multi and Midget Division. Saturday’s event was for the 600 cc Multis. The series also awarded double points towards a national champion.

Derek King, Vienna , IL had a great car and manhandled his way to the front of the 24 car starting field. Derek is not a stranger to the track as he has won here in the past. King is the current national leader and extended his lead in the chase for the championship.

As the 20 lap event got underway Daniel Robinson, Wayne City, IL would rush out to the point. Chasing him for the lead were King and Zach Daum, Pocahontas , IL . Four caution periods in the first 13 laps kept the field bunched together. These three drivers would battle for position with Scott Sawyer, Broken Arrow , OK making his way in to the mix.

On lap 16 King made his move to the front as Robinson got in behind a slower car. After the pass King only had to beat Sawyer to the line for the win.

Modified Division action was superb. Shannon Blair, Potosi , MO is now a member of the “Winners Club”. Blair, who has been racing just a few short years, takes home the chrome after a great batlle with Mike Francis, Fredericktown , MO. This feature could have been won by several drivers.

At the outset, Francis, Blair, Billy Smith, David Shepard, and Brent Thompson all outgunned the field and set up a “war zone” of their own. These five drivers left the field to fend for themselves, while they settled it out for the win.

Francis looked like the man to beat, but Blair stayed close. Smith and Blair would exchange positions on several laps. Then it was Thompson and Smith for a while. This would go on for the entir distance of the event. Just when the fans had settled Francis to be the winner, Blair made his charge. On the last lap and coming to the flag, Blair drove it to the high side and past Francis for the win with less than 30 feet before the finish line. Four yellows slowed the event with none for major incidents.
