Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (March 24, 2009) – Following on the heels of a torrid opening weekend of action, the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters fires right back into action with this weekend's Fourth Annual State Fair Speedway Spring Nationals in Oklahoma City, OK.
The Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Series takes to the 3/8-mile State Fair Speedway for two full nights of high stakes competition on Friday and Saturday, with Saturday night's Spring Nationals championship feature winner pocketing $6,000.
Louisiana's Jason Johnson reigns as defending State Fair Speedway Spring Nationals champion, adding his second event score after topping the inaugural edition in 2006. Wayne Johnson topped the 2007 Spring Nationals finale.
Also reigning as the series defending champion, "The Ragin' Cajun" enters the weekend coming off a hard fought victory in this past weekend's Devil's Bowl Spring Nationals in Mesquite, TX. Johnson outlasted Tony Bruce, Jr., in the final rounds to best a field of 67 competitors from throughout the nation.
While Johnson took the first big payday of the year with the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Series, he still enters this weekend two points off of Shane Stewart's lead pace. Stewart, an Oklahoma native now residing in Indianapolis, topped last Friday night's preliminary feature before capturing runner-up honors on Saturday night.
Just six points off of Stewart's lead pace is four-time series champion Gary Wright of Hooks, TX. After opening the month with a pair of Gulf South scores, Wright claimed runner-up honors behind Stewart on Friday night and then took third on Saturday night in his 200th consecutive series appearance.
New Mexico's Johnny Herrera escaped the opening weekend of action ranked fourth on the strength of a pair of top five runs, with Sooner State shoes Nick Smith and Danny Wood tied for fifth.
California native Paul McMahan, 2008 Brodix Rookie of the Year Eric Baldaccini, past Knoxville Raceway track champion Brian Brown and past series runner-up Michael Dupuy round out the early top ten in points as approximately 30 different drivers have kicked off the 2009 season with title aspirations.
A field comparable to this past weekend's 67 entries is expected for this weekend's season opening event at State Fair Speedway.

Lucas Oil ASCS State Fair Speedway History:
State Fair Speedway has hosted 28 Lucas Oil ASCS National events since 1994, with 24 events in Oklahoma City since the track was reconfigured prior to the 2002 season. Gary Wright has won nine of 20 feature events since the reconfiguration, with Kevin Ramey and Jason Johnson the only other drivers to score multiple wins since that time.
The last time Gary Wright missed a Lucas Oil ASCS event, it was at State Fair Speedway on May 9, 2003, when an accident while en route forced Wright's absence. Since that time, Wright has racked up four series titles and has competed in 200 consecutive Lucas Oil ASCS events.
After topping three of four series events at State Fair Speedway in 2007, "The Texan" was shut out of victory lane in four 2008 Oklahoma City stops.
