Macon Speedway Opens For Practice Wednesday

(Macon, IL) Macon Speedway will open for practice on Wednesday, March 28 beginning at 6:00 PM. Gates will open at 5:00. Admission for grandstand spectators is free. All race cars in all divisions are invited to try out the improved banking in the turns of the fast 1/5 mile while dialing in fresh cars so they are ready for competition on opening night March 31.

The new, improved Macon Speedway opens for the 2007 racing season on Saturday, March 31. Work crews have spent long hours completing renovations and repairs at the Speedway. Gates will open Saturday at 5:00 PM and racing will start promptly at 7:00 PM. A special appearance of the Home Depot #20 car driven by two-time NASCAR champion (and Macon Speedway co-owner) Tony Stewart will take place from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Fans visiting Macon Speedway will experience some of the fastest, action-packed short track racing in the region. Weekly racing at Macon Speedway features five UMP sanctioned divisions: Late Model, Modified, Sportsman, Street Stock and Hornet. New for 2007 is the addition of the C.A.R.S. Late Models. Macon Speedway has been home to many of the top racers in the country today.

NASCAR Stars Kenny Wallace, Ken Schrader, Tony Stewart and Promoter Bob Sargent purchased Macon Speedway in January of 2007. Macon Speedway – racing every Saturday Night – is proud to be part of the $100,000 Contingency Connection program for the 2007 season. Macon Speedway is located 9 miles south of Decatur, IL on US 51 then .6 miles west on Andrews Street, then south on Wiles.
