MACON SPEEDWAY SATURDAY NIGHT – FAST FIVE RACER APPRECIATION – LATE MODELS $1500 TO WIN

(Macon, IL) Racing took a turn toward the exciting at Macon Speedway Saturday night, with a $1500 pot for the winner of the Late Model feature race plus additional prizes. The first leg of the FAST FIVE Racer Appreciation Series was the first major Late Model event of the season for Macon Speedway.
The action started in the heats, with Terry Babb of Decatur receiving damage to the left side of his car in a turn two mishap. Undaunted, Babb finished second to Kyle Logue of Cisco.
The Hogan Grain/Kubota Sportsman were a crowd pleaser tonight, putting on an outstanding show with pole sitter Shane Tomlin of Pawnee, and Mike Pickering of Decatur battling for the lead. Pickering went on to win the Hogan Grain/Kubota Sportsman feature, with Tomlin second and Norm Wood of Sullivan third.
BARBECK Communications Modifieds took to the track with the crowd wondering if this feature event would be win number five for Kyle Logue. Al Crawley and Shawn Bohm, both of Decatur, led the charge from the green flag. By lap 8 Crawley had a quarter-track lead over his competition, but a caution brought the field back on his tail. Still Crawley won the event with little trouble. Randy Myers of Springfield worked his way from a twelfth starting position to place second, and Kyle Logue of Cisco settled for third tonight.
A solid field of Late Models vied for the $1500 prize, but in the end it was Jayme Zider of Greenfield, WI, who took home the cash and additional prizes. Terry Babb of Decatur and Mike Hammerle of St. Charles, MO, started in the front. Zider found the front and stuck tight in the turns to stay in the lead until the end. Babb finished second, and Cory Daugherty of Blue Mound finished third.
Street Stocks have a very large presence at Macon Speedway and put on a tremendous feature showing. Steve Ewing of Decatur once again piloted the ‘Lightning McQueen’ machine to a win after starting third. Terry Reed of Decatur was second, and Jim Quinn of Farmer City was third.
Two Hornet features ended the evening’s excitement. The first was won by Fred Reed Jr. of Decatur , followed by Steve Dulgar of Decatur and Todd Rush of Pawnee, IL. The second Hornet feature was won by Bruce Dulgar, Decatur, followed by hard charger Joe Reed, Decatur, who moved to second after starting eleventh and Michael Pundt of Decatur in third.
