As the dog days of summer are upon us, the Malden Speedway is welcoming newentries on a weekly basis. Five new drivers were among the 107 entries atthe speedway this week. Billy James picked up his third Late Model feature win in four weeks, including his second in a row. Bart Richardson has matched this feat in the Modified division. Gene Fowler picked up his first Hobby Stock feature of the year. Aaron Darby dominated the Pure Street feature. Chris and Jason Simpson picked up their second straight win in the Cruiser division.

Billy James led from start to finish to pick up his fourth Late Model
feature of the year. James earned the pole and threatened to run away from the field early. Todd Hall battled to the pack to take second and was able to close the gap on James late in the race. The pair raced side by side on laps 18 and 19 before James reasserted himself to take the win. Joey Mack won a late duel with Johnny Waters to take third. Jeff Moss took fifth. Heat winners were James and Mack.

Bart Richardson and Robbie Arnold pulled away from the field to have their own personal duel in a caution filled Modified feature. Arnold grabbed the early lead from the outside front row. Richardson pulled even on lap four and took the lead a lap later following a side by side duel. Jeff Cone moved up to take third, only to be disqualified later, the result of a driver protest. Robert Powers took third, followed by Brad Buck and Shane Moody, who earned his first top five finish of the year. Heat winners were Richardson, Arnold, and Jared Wagster.

Gene Fowler moved up from the second row on the first lap and never trailed again to win the Hobby Stock feature. Fowler had built a comfortable two second lead before a lap 13 caution set up a two lap dash to the finish. Fowler moved away again when Jason Pennington and Doug Moore battled it out side by side for second, with Moore grabbing the position through the final curve. Glenn Griffin and Tony Anglin rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Gregg Layne, Moore, and Fowler.

Aaron Darby was the class of the Pure Street field this week as he pulled
away to a convincing win. Darby had built a four second lead before a lap 7 caution reset the field. Darby pulled away on the restart and was never
challenged. Steve Henley outlasted Johnny Houart in a great battle for
second that was not settled until the final lap. Greg Casey and Red Rice
rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Jason Pennington, Darby, Henley, and Casey. Larry Ludwick and Jacob Black won the twin B-Mains.

Chris and Jason Simpson extended their points lead with their second Cruiser feature in a row, their fifth of the year. The Simpson's inherited the lead when early leaders Dunlap and Faulk suffered a blown engine just as an unrelated caution was thrown on lap 3. The Simpson's never trailed again as they pulled away from the field.

Sprint car racing returns to the Malden Speedway this Friday night along
with Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, Pure Street, and Cruisers. Late Models will
have the week off.
