Markewitz scores K&N Filters USCS Modified Spring Xplosion win at Columbus

Columbus, MS - Saturday, April 2, 2011 - Jason "Mingo" Markewitz from Lexington, Alabama raced from his outside front row starting position into the lead on lap one and led the entire 25-lap distance to the www.rockauto.com victory lane in the K&N Filters USCS Modified Touring Series portion of the USCS Spring Xplosion at Columbus Speedway on Saturday night. It was Markowitz's second career triumph on the series.

Former K&N Filters USCS Modified Series Champion, T.J. Herndon from Atwood, Tennessee chased Markowitz around the historic 3/8 mile red clay oval but could not pass the veteran Alabama Modified hot-shoe. K&N Filters USCS Modified points leader, Chris Moore from Nesbit, Mississippi started fifth for the main event and raced his way into the final podium spot in third place. Moore's team-mate Kenny Lovins from Blytheville, Arkansas followed Moore across the finish line in fourth place and Eric "Tiny" Hughes from Fulton, Mississippi rounded out the top five.

Todd Gray from Coker, Alabama led the next group of racers to the finish line in sixth place. Gray was followed by Jeff Scott from Senatobia, Mississippi who finished seventh. The 2008 USCS Modified Touring Series Champion, Ashley Newman from Ripley, Tennessee finished in eighth place He was followed by Bobby Allen, Jr. from Mason, Tennessee in ninth place. Blake Koenigsberger from Columbus, Mississippi rounded out the top ten.

Blake Koenigsberger set the fastest time of the evening with a 15.84 second lap around the high-banked 3/8 mile oval and was awarded the K&N Filters Pole Award for his efforts. Another past series Champion, Ben Reed from Munford, Tennessee won the Aero Race Wheels USCS Modified last chance race presented by R.H.S. Cylinder Heads. Todd Gray captured the evenings Comp Cams Hard Charger Award. Todd Gray started thirteenth and finished sixth in the main event. Chris Moore garnered the K&N Filters Podium award for his third place finish in the A-Main. The Wilwood Engineering Top Five Award went to Eric Hughes. The Diversified Machine/Bulldog rear ends Top Ten Award was garnered by Blake Koenigsberger.
