Haubstadt, IN - May 21, 2014 - This Sunday’s racing program at Tri-State Speedway is the third special event in a row at the track this season involving Sprint Cars. The Memorial Weekend Classic will double as a King of Indiana Sprint Series event and a Midwest Sprint Car Series event. Drivers following both organizations will be trying to transfer through the preliminaries into the 20 car starting field for a 30 lap feature. The feature will pay $2,500 to win and
$250 to start.

The defending champion for this event at Haubstadt is Daron Clayton.
Clayton finished ahead of Kyle Cummins and Kevin Thomas Jr. in winning the 2013 Memorial Weekend Classic. Clayton is already in the win column at the track this season in taking opening night’s MSCS/USAC show!

This long standing Tri-State Speedway holiday race date became a combined MSCS/KISS in 2012. Jon Stanbrough won that first year and Kyle Cummins was third. Prior to that MSCS and Kiss faced off four other times on the Haubstadt quarter mile track but on different dates later in the summer. Daron Clayton won the first two of those contests. Brady Short and Jeff Bland Jr. won the other two features in 2009 and 2010.

Jon Stanbrough was the winner in last week’s KISS event at the Lawrenceburg Speedway. He leads the MSCS Points standings and is fifth in KISS points. Shane Cottle leads the points in the KISS series by virtue of his two feature wins. Both came on quarter mile tracks!

Racing gets underway Sunday the 25th at 7:30 P.M. Central Daylight time. Opening ceremonies usually begin about 10 minutes earlier.
Fans arriving early can observe warm ups and hot laps which are conducted between 6 and 6:30. This year’s Memorial Weekend Classic will be presented in tribute to Josh Burton. Josh will be remembered for his involvement in racing with MSCS and the speedway. He began racing with the series in 2011 when he was 20 years old. His driving career was cut short when he lost his life following a racing accident in 2013. During his short but promising career he had a great deal of success in his trips to Tri-State Speedway. His best five MSCS finishes were all at Haubstadt and that included a third place finish in the Harvest Cup at the end of the 2012 season.

The Josh Burton Memorial Race will be held at Bloomington Speedway Friday night the 23rd. MSCS will also race at Lincoln Park Speedway Saturday night before the weekend finale at Tri-State Speedway on Sunday.

The UMP Modifieds will also be racing this Sunday night at Tri-State Speedway. The two feature events for the modifieds at the track this season have produced two different winners. So far the local drivers have prevailed over the travelers following the UMP series. Levi Kissinger and Zach Fair hold those two 2014 victories. Fair also won last year’s event. Mark Lamont of Crossville, IL, has posted 2 top three finishes this season.

Information is provided on behalf of Tri-State Speedway and MSCS.
