Meurerism's and favorite stories....

I am gonna so miss " dirtgirl " is in the house - :( He definatley knew his audiance from the " Rat Pack " " Pastaman " to the " Zesty Boys " and everyone in between. He knew where every drivers wives and family was sitting at. And he'd always come up in the stands and visit with us bench drivers :) I recall just about everything that has been said and each one has brought a smile to my face. With that said Thank You for this post and look forward to many more smiles by the other memories to come. God Speed TTG !

One of my favorites happened at a St. Louis Auto Racing Fan Club Banquet of Champions a couple of years ago.

Gladys Edwards, who is the Queen of Sand Drag racing.........and a grandmother, had just received the Ambassador Award from TTG. She asked if she could say something to Kenny (Schrader, the guest speaker). Mike said sure. Gladys looks at Kenny and says, "I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours." At which point Meurer comes running around in front of Gladys and opens his sport coat as wide as he can while everyone in the room is roaring with laughter. He goes back to the microphone and says, "You can't hear her she's saying race car. She wants to show Kenny her race car."

Meurer's timing, as usual, was spot on and perfect.

referencing the latemodels as jet fighters in a gymnasium and the way he said "bring out the mod-i-fieds" when they lead the night. I still say it whenever I hear the national anthem finish....LOL

Well fortunately I have many memories with Mike. But one of the more memorable ones was up at Highland.

Elaine Hanradt & I were taking on the announcers duties as Mike was participating in an Officials race. And believe me it took both of us and alot of his words (sayings) to get thru it. Elaine & I had a blast that race calling the shots."Mellow on the yellow, mean on the green" are a few of the lines we used..

The nite at Belleville a couple years ago that it hailed...O M G...We were stuck on the judges stand. We all crawled underneath the counters. It was a very scary event. We were all very grateful that Curt had put a roof on the stand...

Mike & I have since become very good friends. Having our mid-week chats (that I cherish so much) stealing a few minutes at the track to banter back & forth.

God Speed Mike..You may be gone...But you will never be forgotten...

I will never forget when we pulled in to Belle-Clair this year with Tyler's street stock and TTG was sitting on his four wheeler and said "Hey governor don't you have the wrong car on that trailer?" As soon as he met Tyler he took a liking to Tyler. He made sure to tell me "You know what your getting into right, dating a racecar driver? I said oh yeah Mike I know. I chose the racecar over an engament ring. I can still hear him saying girl you are CRAZY! : ) Friday night the street stock feature was his last race that he announced and Tyler started on the front row. Before the feature when Ty was sitting on the front row he gave Ty a thumbs up. Tyler has that to remember about TTG. Tylers mom also has the race on video and you can hear him on the first lap saying Tyler Gerberding just lead his first feature lap ever. After the races i saw Mike and he said to me "Tyler did great! You have a driver just like your dad, be proud. As soon as i heard of his passing the only thing i could is cry becuase we have so many wonderful memories of him and with him that he will be truely missed.

RIP TTG! You were the best! I bet there is a big race in heaven and you are on the stand doing what you do best!

I am 3 hours from I55 and have only been there a couple of times but the first time I went to I55 I made several comments about the announncer and how impressed I was at the knowledge of him. I never knew Mike personally or have never met him but he was very impressive with the mic. I have been to race track all over the country and let me just say he was the best. Entertained the crowd and called the race at the same time. RIP Mr. TTG. I am going this weekend to I55 and will wear my purple. I just wonder what nickname he will have for the man upstairs because he is truely the anouncing god.

I have a video of my first ever win at Belle-Clair. As I was coming to pick up the checkered for my victory lap, you can hear Mike saying "his first win in a stock car". It wasn't the words that made it special, but rather the way he said it. After knowing Mike and being friends for so long you could just hear the genuine excitement in his voice for me. I am so glad someone was taping that for me. I'll never forget it.

my favorite saying of his and I use it often was during a bomber race at belle clair a driver had his bumper dragging after an incident on the track he came to the infield and his pit crew tried to pull it off and the driver ended up backing over it and he said "gentlemen you gotta be smarter than the equipment you are working with"I love that saying!

One night at I-55 I parked my Late Model in the concrete, as it carried off the track by two tow trucks one by the front and one by the back Mike says "I guess that's what you call a MANAJATOW"

Crashing all by yourself
$5000 racecar damage
$1000 at chiropractor
MEURERISM=PRICELESS

TTG was one of the most caring and compassionate people I've ever known. What he did for me and my family after the passing of my Uncle Dave will never be forgotten!!!! The speech he gave at the Benefit was great....Thanks for the memories from Highland and I-55.He can never be replaced and every STL area announcer owes him a debt of gratitude....The races will never be the same.....:(.....RIP

I remember a nickle race a few year ago for the kids. My brother Wahoo(oh how mike loved to say that) decided he was going to help my son. I remember Mike saying something on the pa system about Wahoo needing money for the car and to not take the money form the kids lol. My son was shoving money at Wahoo so fast, I can only imagine what Mike was thinking, but he sure had a fun time saying it. Also in 2005 my son was lucky enough to get picked for jr fan club on his 3rd birthday. We took him down to the pits and uncle Wahoo came to give him his ride. During this they were discing the track and my son got more interested in the tractor that his uncle. Mike pointed out over the PA of my son pointing at the tractor. Those were the daty. TTG we all have many fond memories of you and your "sayings" we will never forget you friend.

Modified Modified Modified... Or when the track was dry slick an a car would spin out that ERRRRT sound he made!!! his quotes will never be forgotten!!! u was the best

Modified modified modified was my favorite too. I catch myself saying it all the time.

There are so many great stories that we all could tell about Mike and how great he was. The memories will live with us forever. My favorite thing at I55 was when he would always call out about half price burgers...
Thanks for the wonderful memories and laughs TTG you will be missed!!

I will always remember that enthusiasm and knowledge of the sport, crowd and of course the competitors. I have told my wife numerous times when I quit driving I would love to take a shot at the mic and alot of it was because of the way he made the races fun and interesting. The one that sticks out in my mind was at Pevely. Weber had been on flying around the joint chasing Shereck and the caution comes out close to the end. After they go back to green and the race was all but over: "The flame went out on the Rocketman's ride but here comes your PIIIIZZZZAAAAA and it is smoking HOT!!" Rest easy TTG!

the time when Dixon did the slide job on moyer at the summer nationals to win coming out 4 on the last lap . SLIDE JOB ! SLIDE JOB ! RIP MIKE U WERE THE BEST !
