The Autumn air moved in a different pattern over the Mid America Motor Speedway for the annual Mid America Blowout. With clear skies the rotation of wind came from the air dams and spoilers of the O'Reilly MLRA as the drivers tried to qualify for the next evenings Features. Trying his best was local Al Purkey from Coffeyville, Ks as going into the night he was trailing Defending Champion Alan Vaughn by just 22 points in the final weekend of points. Both drivers have had very stellar seasons with many wins to each of their credits. Purkey and Vaughn both had competed in Championship points with the O'Reilly NCRA. also and it was to the wire there also only to see Al Purkey claim the title at the end. With this on Purkey's mind he was wanting to accomplish more than just a qualifing race, he also wanted to gain the most in passing points to better his starting position.

On tap for the evening was over 150 cars as competition was at the top of the list for everybody there. 'ROOKIE' racer Rusty Dukes of Fair Grove Missouri lead the way into the points battle of the "Rookies" with a cushion that was not to be contended with. His finish and efforts would be merely money. Other "Rookies" racing for points was there to get in his pocket and steal his chances included Dale Eaton, Eric Anderson, Will Ince and Brett LaFollette.

Drivers was from everywhere including Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas to shoot for the $5,000.00 A Feature prize money

High Gear Higlights

In the first heat Joe Kosiski jumped to the front and never looked back for the rest of the way. On laps 6,7,and 8 Brett LaFollette was giving the Champ Alan Vaughn fits running as hard and as deep as Vaughn would in all of the corners. Then on lap 9 he finally edged the "Rookie" fr the top three position.

Heat two was the Bodenhamer and Randolph show for the most part. Bodenhamers one shot at the lead would come and go on lap 9 as Randolph muscled away.

Ted Martin and Russell Portwood would jump straight to the fire making action on lap 2 getting into each other and either having no desire to lift, as the turn one approched they seperated and continued at full speed. Lap 3 had Dan Pablo looping in 3, then again on lap 6 in two. All this time Gary Stolba had watched his efforts come into play as he worked the field like a seasoned pro. Lap 8 had Stolba doing the dance of the octane as he throttled to the outside of Mike Wallace going for the lead. After staking his claim it was Willow Springs, Missouri driver claiming his victory.

The fourth heat was dedicated to be Mike Brown wins and no one else has a chance. As Brown blasted to at once a 25 car lead. Terry Phillips would come into the top 3 with Snny Fiendling getting second.

Heat 5 was the flag race of the evening as it appeared to never get started but when it finally did Al Purkey would claim the win to be his.Ed Dixon made a charge almost every lap but he never could slip by for enough time to make Purkey pull behind. Rounding the top 5 would be Mike Martin, Dustin Mooneyham and Terry Melton.

The finl heat was another stop and go race with the first caution coming on lap 1 with the pole sitter spinning in turn two almost slapping the wall. on the restart Brandon McCormick would slip up in turn 4 . Back on the gas Larry Clawson and Bill Frye almost became straight away tropheys as Clawson scooped on Frye barely missing making a big mess. Frye finally settled on the top to get the pass for second, then a couple laps later McCormick saw the same cushion and blasted Frye out of 4 inches away from the wall. Ahead Raymond Merrill was a non stopper as he kept forward motion and at a fast pace.
