Evansville, IN. As of September 26th, 2005, the Midwest Sprint Car Series came under new ownership. The new owners are Barry Boone, Eldon and Oleva Butcher, and Tom and Loris Helfrich. All parties involved in the acquisition have an enduring background in racing and a common interest in promoting sprint car racing as an extreme, competitive form of entertainment.

Barry Boone has taken the on the responsibility to direct the series. The Henderson, Kentucky, resident first appeared on the area racing scene as a driver and is a former Champion at Kentucky Motor Speedway near Owensboro. He continued to add his own brand of genuine enthusiasm to the sport of auto racing as the track announcer at Kentucky Motor Speedway and Salem Speedway. Barry was also the General Manager of Salem Speedway in Salem, Indiana, for two years.

Currently Barry serves as the voice of Tri-State Speedway where he assumed the annoucing duties for this past season’s special events. He is also known as a veteran pit road reporter for WUME Radio which has kept him in the middle of the racing action for 10 years. Boone views the series as a great oppportunity to “entertain race fans and help drivers advance their career goals.”

Eldon and Oleva Butcher of Oakland City, Indiana, have been involved in racing as news correspondents. They have contributed countless stories and accompanying photographs to numerous racing publications for over three decades.

Eldon Butcher has also served in the capacity of an official with the United Midwestern Promoters and was initially involved in the creation of the UMP Challenge of Champions in 2003. He has acquired valuable experience in the day to day operation of a sanctioning body and understands the extent of the planning required to conduct a traveling series.

Driver Alex Shanks of Marion, Illinois, just wrapped up the 2005 MSCS Points Title, his second in as many years. When the season opens in 2006 the MSCS Sprint Car Series will be entering into its sixth season. Tentative plans are for a schedule providing drivers and race fans a series of at least 12 events.

Tom Helfrich’s involvement provides a valuable home base for the series. As many as eight races will be held at Tri-State Speedway which is operated and promoted by Tom and his wife Loris. Each MSCS race at the Haubstadt, IN, oval will have it’s own unique format. Other tracks will be contacted soon in order to establish a complete schedule for the 2006 season. The schedule will be reviewed for further expansion in 2007.
