Winfield, Tennessee (07/25/12) – Over the past week Mike Marlar has been on the road with the Schaeffer's Southern National Series with his #5 Bryson Motorsports/Rocket/Clements Super Late Model, and he has recorded several strong runs and a pair of wins.

Mike and Bryson Motorsports have taken part in seven events with the Schaeffer's Southern Nationals Series in the past week. After finishing fourth on Monday night, July 16th in the opener at Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Virginia), Tuesday night, July 17th was a great outing for Mike as he raced to his second win of the 2012 season with a triumph in the second round of the Schaeffer's Southern Nationals Series, which was held at Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tennessee). Twenty-seven entries were on hand for the $3,500-to-win event, and in time trials Marlar qualified second fastest and was one of three drivers to break the track record. Via his qualifying effort he started outside-front-row alongside pole sitter, Chris Madden. Mike would run second for the first sixteen laps of the feature before racing past Chris Madden in traffic to claim the top spot. Marlar went on to lead the last nineteen laps to claim the win over Madden, Kenny Compton, Billy Ogle, and Vic Hill.

Thursday, July 19th found Mike finishing fourth in the $3,500-to-win event at North Georgia Speedway (Chatsworth, Georgia). The next night at Swainsboro Raceway (Swainsboro, Georgia) Marlar would continue his momentum with a second place finish.

Saturday, July 21st was another great outing for the team as Mike stormed to the $5,300 win in the Southern Nationals Series Late Model event at Screven Motor Speedway (Sylvania, Georgia). Thirty Super Late Models entered the event, and Marlar began the night by recording the fastest time around the 3/8 mile oval with a 15.058 second lap, which locked him into the pole position for the main event. At the drop of the green flag he jumped to the lead, and would never look back on his way to the win, which came over Billy Ogle Jr., Chris Madden, Johnny Pursley, and Kenny Compton Jr.

Just as Marlar was catching series' point leader, Chris Madden, bad luck would strike on Sunday, July 22nd at Rome Speedway, when he saw a likely top five finish erased by a flat tire in the closing laps, which resulted in a fourteenth place finish.

Mike returned to the Schaeffer's Southern Nationals Series on Tuesday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Alabama) for a $3,500-to-win feature event. Twenty-six cars entered the event, and Marlar started the night by blasting to the fastest time around the clay oval with a 13.746 second lap. Via his qualifying effort he earned the pole position for the 35 lap main event with Chris Madden starting to his outside. At the drop of the green flag in the feature Madden shot to the lead with Marlar in tow. Mike would pursue Madden for the duration of the event before registering a second place finish at the checkered flag.

"This hot rod has been really great over the past week. I can't thank Norman (Bryson) and all of my team members for their hard work and support! They are definitely making my job easier," commented Marlar.

Mike is currently second in the latest series' standings. Full results from all of the events and the latest standings are available at www.SouthernNationalsSeries.com.

Mike will enter the final three events of the Schaeffer's Southern Nationals Series this weekend, July 26th-28th. On Thursday night a $3,500-to-win event will be held at Cleveland Speedway before the tour moves onto Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tennessee) on Friday night for a $5,300-to-win race.
