Mod Mania New Format

Just curious what people’s thoughts are on the new format. I am sure some drivers hate not qualifying and others like the thought of having a chance. From the fans perspective, I’m sure it makes for more exciting racing as the drivers are pushing hard to make it to the front. What are others thoughts??

As a fan it's been exciting. Only issue is when some of the really inexperienced guys draw good polls and start up front and wad up the field on the start.

I LOVE the new passing points format! From a fan's point of view, it was wonderful to watch a big show without time trials locking the fast guys in front. Putting a premium on passing cars is much more fun to watch than seeing almost everything decided at the start of the night. I understand why some racers don't like it, but as I have preached for years (inspired by some of the brightest promotional minds in the sport), racing is as much about show business as it is a competition.

I would submit this type of format be adopted by ALL special events, starting with the 2019 SummerNationals.

I'll have a full report with driver interviews on next week's edition of Pedal To The Metal.

As a fan, you have to appreciate the Gundakers trying to add excitement to Mod Mania. This is a show most of us look forward to all year. But also as a fan not sure all of the extra races is the way to go. Especially Saturday the show ran far too late. I hated seeing so many fans leaving before the features, but most had kids that were beyond restless. I would like to see the premier class go back to running their feature first with the filler class last. That way the die hard fans can stay and the families with kids can see what they came and paid for. A suggestion for 2019 trying the Knoxville Late Model Nationals format where you do qualify. The top eight are then inverted. With qualifying heavily weighted. This still makes you race hard, but your qualifying helps if you can't make it all the way to the front. It would eliminate a round of races that aren't needed.
The one thing that was obvious was a need for 1 or 2 more tow trucks. Just suggestions, but what do I know... We enjoyed the weekend and enjoyed seeing the 24h close the weekend out with a win. Hopefully some of the cars that have supported the show regularly in the past but skipped this year because of the format will return in 2019... All in all had a great time. Again, the Gundakers deserve a congrats and a thank you for putting the time and effort to make this a premier mod show. Already looking forward to 2019...

why not just drop the lates to make the show not so long?

I cant wait for some highlights. I hate working this week every year!

You gotta have the lates due to the crowd.. us modified fans can say what we want but, late models draw the fans... just look at a some of the bigger mod shows for example fairbury $10,000 to win snow.... you can sit anywhere you want... mods just don’t draw the fans like lates do. I would suggest to just staying with 2 classes.. the crates don’t add much in my opinion... that’s when everyone goes to concession or bathroom. I didn’t care for the invert.. I understand invert when you qualify and all of that but, the invert with the passing points suck in my opinion... Harrison and Stevenson last night passed a lot of cars and still didn’t get to start in front row... I thought that’s what passing points were about... do away with the invert if you’re doing passing points.. another fun weekend.. thought the racing surface was best Saturday night..

I like the new format, however the qualifier round is not needed (especially when you consider how inefficient they are at running a timely program). Also, one other class would be plenty.

Their programs ran WAY longer than they needed to all 3 nights.
