Farmington, MO (August 9) -- The season has been a long one for Fredericktown’s Joey Montogmery. Always fast where ever he races, the victory was his Saturday Night at St Francois County Raceway.
By placing second in the dash, Montgomery used the outside front row starting position to his advantage and walked away from the field. He took his Tim Tucker Bail Bonds, Comfort Pools, C & C Racing products entry through the slower runners. In all 7 cars were left on the lead lap. Twenty-one cars started the event. There was only one caution period for a spinning car in the 25 Lap event.
Montgomery, Jimmy Hurley, Point Leader Tommy Worley Jr, Kent Buckley and Bryan Matthews completed the Top five.
In Modified Feature number one. Dominating would be an understatement for David Shepard. The driver from DeSoto, MO, used some motivation from last week. Shepard finished second in the feature to Brent Thompson in a race that was decided at the finish line.
Shepard took this spark and turned into a positive. His King Automotive Center, Allout Graphics, Line X Bedliners and Lumpy’s Pot Head Helmet Painting entry was set on rails. By winning the dash Shepard started the 15 Lap grind from the pole and never looked back. The race was stopped one for a fire on the car of Kenny Harris, which was quickly extinguished and for a stalled machine of Bill Long.
Shepard was followed home by current Point Leader Brent Thompson, Don Luna, Matt Eaton, and Mike Francis.
The Modified Make-up Feature from July 12 found Jeremy Greenwalt in thwinners circle for the second time this season. His first in a modified for 2008. He also scored a win the Pure Street Division subbing for Brian Blair.
His Tim Tucker Bail Bonds, Boyer Lumber Reggie’s Auto Body machine was fast. With this being the last race of the evening the track had change significantly from their first event. Some changes were made and they paid off. Surviving two caution flags for spinning cars and debris. During one of the caution periods Greenwalts cars had some flame coming out of the right side. No damage was done to the car. Drove on and took the win.
Brent Thompson would lead early and settle for second place. Third went to first Feature Winner, David Shepard. Fourth went to Billy Smith and fifth goes to Mike Francis.
With a season high count in the Pure Street Division. Brian Blair had his hands full from the start. Twenty-nine cars graced the pit area for Saturdays event. His Reggie’s Auto Body, Steve’s Hauling, Bixby Country Store, Moma T’s entry held off several challenges from runner-up finishe Mike Savage. Savage won last week and was making the attempt for back-to-back wins.
In the Winner’s Circle, Blair told the crowd that If Mike had gotten out front, he would be tough to catch.
One side note on Blair. By winning this feature, by rule his car must be torn down. The car was impounded and tear down will be on Sunday. This is his third feature win of the season.
Blair and Savage crossed the line one – two. Kasey Nations, Charlie Savage and Josh Skaggs complete the Top five.
Bonne Terre, Missouri’s, Eric Ziegler got his first career victory. Eric has been in a multitude of cars. From the Multi, to Modified, to Sprints, and now back in the Multi.
Looking quite comfortable in the car he outdistance past Winners James Scott and Ryan Kempin.
Driving his Linda Fischer for State Representative, Ziegler – Worley Motorsports entry. Ziegler made it look easy. In the post race interview Ziegler dedicated the win to his father who passed away seven years ago.
Racing will continue next Saturday with our Annual Fan Appreciation / Kids Nickel Race. Gates Open at 4:00 and racing will start around 7:00. Admission to the grandstand is $10. Children 12 and under are Free with a paid adult. Pit Passes are $25
