Hi Gang,
Can anyone guess the driver, the track and the date of this photo?

YOU GOT IT! This photo was sent to me by a long time friend in Liverpool, England. He is a huge race fan, not only in England but the USA. He has been over many times (the Chili Bowl 3 time alone, I met him this year and we went to the John Zink musium as well, very cool.)

That's Rick at Hednesford Hills Raceway in England, The event is the British Stock Car Racing World Championship, 1988. (Rick raced in England a number of times) I raced in this event in 1978, and 1980. Note how Rick is sitting on the wing of the race car (some sit on the hood, or bonnet as the Brits would say.) With English short oval track racing they often have, before the Final (English term for main/feature race), the drivers sit on their cars while paraded around the track, they can get face time with the fans, the crowd loves it.

Here is another photo of Rick in England.

We've got a Liverpool FC football supporter in our group!

Personally I prefer the Wales Rugby League, I've been to the old Cardiff Arms Stadium, with a Brains Beer and me best mate, it was magic!

Had no clue there were American's that raced in BRISCA! And don't forget about the Beatles. They were from Liverpool too.

Cool story!

Are you familiar with BriSCA stock car racing? Have you seen it in person? If you have it's hard to explain to American race fans. The race is wild, exciting non-stop action. Very limited use of the yellow flag, stopped race cars stay on the track as the race continues, all big block engines with lots of opposite lock on shale... they race rain or shine. Plus spectator crowds the would be the envy of many local promoters. Watching the flag man is dam near worth the price of admission. For big events he is dressed in a gold lamay jacket. During the race he points to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and sometime 5th place cars, showing their position with the fingers on his hand! It's done so fast, it's almost a blur. At the end of the race he will hold up a long pole paddle board with 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 lap to go, holding up to the crowd to see before he swings around over the race car. Showmanship at it's best.

There have been a number of American drivers to be invited to race in BriSCA, at least 20. This is not counting in the early 1950's, a group of Southern modified boys that shipped their own cars over and raced with the locals. The whole thing of caught the imagination of the British fans and that's went it all started, there is lots of oval track racing in the UK, with many types of cars.

I have included photos some other American drivers. (not pictured but name drivers include Bob Cicconi, Rick Zimmerman)

Starting with myself, Rick Standridge, Jim McClure, Phil Libby, Wally Preston, Larry Tanquay. Plus some tracks and grids.
