Mid America Motor Speedway
Race 1 of the 2004 Thunder Series Tour
March 12, 13 - 2004

With the flip of a toggle and the push of a button, the Midwest will fire to life once again for Dirt Late Model racing fans. After a bitter cold off-season, crews are making the final preparations to the fine tuned precision machines that thrill everyone from the driver to the fans, when they take to the track. Next weekend the talk will be cheap but the action won't as over 50 Late Model teams are expected to grace the back gate starting Thursday night for an open practice session for the new cars, then 24 hours later the bugs had better be worked out of them as it's Showtime.
Friday night will be a horsepower symphony as hundreds of gallons of the finest will be pumped through the carburetors igniting the internal explosions that force the tachometers to the red and the rear tires to the brown. It will also be the first night for many teams to experiment with new set-ups and new cars as over the off season some have made changes to their teams and equipment. The truth will show on who did their math, and how many times they rechecked their figures. As the heats raced Friday helps set the field for the $5,000 to win $500 to start A Feature Saturday night.
Drivers expected, include 2003 Champion, Alan Vaughn as he sets a pace for the others to follow. Pulling off the "Rookie" stripe this season will be Rusty Dukes as he has graduated to the ranks of highly capable and quite possible. Hometown favorite Al Purkey is also planning to dust the track at his impressive speeds as well as "Racin Jason" Bodenhamer to provide some thrills. Gary Webb of Bluegrass, Iowa considered the most likable figure in dirt racing will bring both style and speed in his total package that impresses fans everywhere he goes. Even more expected include Terry Phillips his accomplishments at Mid America usually speak for themselves when the checkered flag flies. "Supermoon" Dustin Mooneyham will also be on hand breaking in a new car and hoping to break some track records.
The list goes on as many have made commitments from several states including Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas to name a few. Joining the Super Late Models will be the Outlaw Factory Stocks, Factory Stocks, Pure Stocks, Front Wheel Drives, and the Modifieds. It will be 3 full nights of fun and 3 full nights of action that you don't want to miss out on.
The Mid-America Motor Speedway is considered to be one of the raciest places on dirt, with it's semi banked curves it sees action 3-4 cars wide on its 3/10 mile oval at unbelievable speeds.
Thursday night's action will be an open night for the teams to test and tune.
Friday Nights the gates open at 4:30 p.m. and racing takes to the track at 7:30 then Saturday the gates open at 3:30 with racing at 6:00 p.m.

In the event of a special appearance by Mother Nature the following weekend will be used for a rain date.
