Heat Race 1
The "Child" got wild but not until lap 7 as for awhile it was looking Like the defending champion from Belton, Missouri. Alan Vaughn would go uncontested for the first heat race of the evening at the Mid America Motor Speedway. Within the first laps Vaughn would show the skills needed to be a race leader, right behind him was other skills and talents that was knocking at the door and wanting in. Approaching lap 8 Vaughn would race under the flagstand in high gear and in full motion but his approach into turn 2 had a little different path with his direction on it. Into the marbles he would go and he would have to elbow up hard to save his Helt's Turf Farm racer. Down the backstretch he kept it hammered and sideways but only lost a couple of precious spots. The next few laps would be crucial for him as those mid pack cars was now the cars he would need to race again for the front. From that point on he never would be able to get the strengths needed to make a charge for the lead as they crossed the checkers it was Al Purkey with the victory. Vaughn would hold back Joe Kosiski for second, Kosiski would narrowly keep John Anderson from slipping up on his top 3 run.

Heat Race 2
It was Coffeyville regular racer Daryl Brown in the second heat that logged the best run of the evening in his heat race. Leading all 11 laps he never would look back in his Potato Creek car doing it in style with the left front seldom seeing the ground. Behind him Raymond Merrill had a close call while attempting a challenge, his car slipped under from him in turn two whipping it around as he grabbed the wheel and held on for the ride. When the car finally stopped it was minimal damage to sheet metal that had came from the concrete wall. On the restart it was Rusty Dukes a O'Reilly MLRA "Rookie" that was out to impress, as he begin a charge on every groove of the track, muscling up to second position. Merrill on the other hand had climbed back on the horsepower and was back to the front himself but never had the position to challenge Dukes for another spot.

Heat Race 3
With 2 laps in the books the worst incident of the evening could have been a lot worse than the final outcome. Terry Melton leading the race was working up to a 2-3 car advantage as he was outrageously fast, but his power and the apex of turn 2 had a conflict that put Melton in a nasty Speedway dance. While he was working the bottom, his racer became loose and loose became lost, as he was trying to get control again. The others was on his outside and attempted to capitalize on his misfortunes. But hardship and impact would come to him and Eric Anderson just past the flagstand. Anderson's car was the closest thing to stop Meltons racecar as they both slammed into each other. Anderson's car being used as a 50mph moving target. After a brief Red, Melton would be able to go again as he sentenced to the rear of the field. On the restart it was 3 separate races at once through the field. Russell Portwood a Coffeyville racer would jump to the front and race his way to a victory, while behind him was Gary Webb and Kerry Schulze in a heated race for second. 2 car lengths back another fight was going on for position as Brandon McCormick last seasons "Rookie"of the year was squared with Robert Hough for 4th place.

40 Lap Mothers Day Magic O'Reilly MLRA/NCRA
After 3 tries for the green, flagman Mike Striegal saw the perfect start for everyone as the cars rolled down the straight away side by side 12 rows deep. Turn 1 had the advantage for Rusty Dukes as he blasted Polesitter Al Purkey and went to the lead. His leadership qualities were soon to be tested as Purkey was back for the test once again. On Purkeys second attempt of being the race leader he spoke the loudest of the bunch. With 23 cars in his rear view mirror he would only lead long enough to get his tires heated, as the Red would come out for Darren Ray as his car was against the frontstretch wall in the way of trouble on lap 2. After a restart it was "Pole Cat" Purkey once again being challenged for the lead spot. Dukes would get enough of a nose piece under him to keep Purkey feeling uneasy for the next few laps. After a few more laps of action Dukes chances would go slipping, as the top groove of the backstretch wasn't quite where his car was being raced but more in the marbles as now found himself going backwards a few spots. Charging in the Kilpatrick Chevrolet car Kerry Schulze was now on his mission from Nevada, as he would too have the power at times to put the pressure on Purkey. a few car lenghts back Dukes and Brown had some nose to tail action in turn 4 with Brown spinning, as it would cause another restart that would tighten the field together once again. Within the half way point Raymond Merrill had snuck his way to the top. As he was now determined to upset Schulze on his way to the lead. As the two battled for spots Purkey was able to pull to a 5-car length advantage but was faced with more and more lapped cars. Again the Yellow would fly for Ace Ihm, as he would swap ends on the track in turns 1 and 2 it was a bunched field again for everybody on the restart. Soon the centerpieces of Omaha was in the big 5 as they would work over Kerry Schulze time and time again, only to be put aside as Schulze was holding his ground. When the final flag fell on the field most of the starting cars was still on the track, but once again Al Purkey was the man that was "On Track".
