Baton Rouge, Louisiana (July 1, 2003) - The O'Reilly SUPR Late Model Series is set to kick off a big July 4th weekend and there is no bigger place to start off other than Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas. A favorite for many of the competitors on the O'Reilly SUPR Late Model Series, Devil's Bowl returns to the schedule after a year's absence and with the Bowl now running Late Models on a weekly basis, a strong field of competitors is expected to be on hand. The O'Reilly SUPR Late Models will kick off their busy holiday weekend on Thursday night, July 3rd at Devil's Bowl with the running of the Firecracker 50. Joining the O'Reilly SUPR Late Models will be the USA Modifieds and the night will be capped by a big fireworksdisplay.

Heading up the competition at Devil's Bowl will be Darren Ellis, driving the B23 of Bill Blue who topped the Late Model action last Saturday night at Devil's Bowl and Rob Litton who topped the O'Reilly SUPR Late Model action at Pike County Speedway in McComb, Mississippi in his LMS Truck Center Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rocket.

Ryan Plaisance of Harvey, Louisiana was the big winner the last time the O'Reilly SUPR Late Models visited Devil's Bowl Speedway and he hopes to place his Planet Beach/Cajun Motorsports Ford Taurus Warrior back in victory lane in Mesquite.

The O'Reilly SUPR Late Models will then cross the border into Louisiana for a pair of races, starting off on Friday night July 4th at Many Motor Speedway and then traveling up the road to Champion Park Speedway on Saturday night July 5th.

The O'Reilly SUPR Late Models are returning to Many Motor Speedway for the second time this season and James Ward, winner of the first event is eager for the chance to return to the site of his very first O'Reilly SUPR Late Model victory back in May. Jody Prince has similar feelings about Champion Park Speedway as his hometown track was the site of his first O'Reilly SUPR Late Model victory back in April.

The big holiday weekends play a big role in determining the series champion each year and the competition better make a move this weekend as Kenny Merchant is threatening to make it a un away this season in his J.D. Caver-backed Ford Taurus Warrior. Merchant has won 6 races in 15 events and has finished in the top 5 in all but one race this season. Merchant from West Monroe, Louisiana was leading his home race at the Fast Trax Motorplex in May when he suffered mechanical troubles for his only dnf of the season.

James Ward has been one of Kenny's biggest challengers all season, as he has recorded two victories and 11 top 5 finishes. Ward, from Lettsworth, Louisiana is the 2002 Late Model America/B&K Underground Rookie of the Year and he's driving for Mitch Tassin in 2003.

1999 O'Reilly SUPR Champion David Ashley of Zachary, Louisiana is another strong competitor on the tour. Ashley driving for Randy Cook won the Mardi Gras Nationals in February and is coming off his strongest showing since the MG Nationals with a stellar 22nd to 2nd charge at Pike County.

The action gets underway this Thursday night July 3rd at Devil's Bowl Speedway where the gates will open at 6:00 p.m. and the racing starts at 8:30 p.m. For further information visit the Devil's Bowl web site at http://www.devilsbowl.com.

The O'Reilly SUPR Late Models then travel to Many Motor Speedway in Many, Louisiana for the Fourth of July Rumble. The racing gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Additional information can be found on the Many Motor Speedway web site at http://www.manymotorspeedway.com.

The weekend will then wrap up at Champion Park Speedway in Doyline, Louisiana on Saturday night July 5th. The racing gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Champion Park Speedway is located just off Interstate 20 on the north east side of exit 38, Goodwill Road. For further information call (318) 371-0077.
