Paducah International Raceway plans most agrresive schedule yet

(Paducah, KY) Paducah International Raceway has some very exciting new events planned for 2009, along with also having many of our popular perennial events back on our schedule again this coming year. The season will kick off with the Salvation Army Car show on February 28th, followed by two practice nights, the first being March 14th and the second being March 20th.

Opening day is scheduled for March 27th, track points will also commence on opening day. Paducah International Raceway’s next scheduled Special race is the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars on April 17th. The racing action at PIR then moves to Friday, May 1st and Saturday, May 2nd with what could be the largest Late Model weekend in the storied history of Paducah International Raceway. Friday, May 1st will be a full program including a U.M.P. Late Model special. Then, on Saturday, May 2nd the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will make its first ever appearance on the high banks of PIR. This race will feature Super Late Models battling it out to try and claim the first place prize money of $10,000!

The first special for our support divisions will be Friday, May 22nd with a $1,000 to win prize for our U.M.P. Pro Late Model division. The next week May 29th PIR will host the first of three races in the annual Tri-Track Challenge which will give a lucky Late Model driver $5,000 if they win the NALMS sanctioned Late Model race. Friday, June 12th will bring our U.M.P. Modifieds to center stage for a $1,000 to win race. Saturday, June 13th PIR will bring the Mid-South Pullers Association to the track for the first time ever. The fire breathing truck and tractors will attempt to pull on a 300ft track using their monstrous 3,000 horsepower engines for a thrilling display of horsepower.

On June 19th, we will bring back one of our most popular races, the 4th Annual Faster Pastor races. Come out to the track and see if your pastor is faster. June 26th the U.M.P. Summer Nationals return for its annual stop at PIR. This year’s race is the first time the tour has been scheduled on a weekend. The race will pay $10,000 to win for U.M.P. Late Model division.

Next up on PIR’s action packed schedule is Friday, July 3rd which will once again highlight the U.M.P. Pro Late Models with a $1000 to win special. On July 17th, we will bring the U.M.P. Street Stocks to the fore front for their $500 to win feature. PIR will pay tribute to our loyal fans by hosting the annual fan appreciation night which takes place on Friday, Aug 7th with ½ off grandstand admission. August 14th will see the return of the very popular driver appreciation night. This event includes bringing all cars on the track, and gives the fans a chance to get up close with their favorite local heroes of racing. All fans will be allowed down on the track for autographs and photos of their favorite drivers.

The hot steamy month of August gives way on August 28th to the USA World 50 featuring the Mars/U.M.P. Late Models for a $5,000 to win payoff. September 4th will bring the 2nd Annual Summer Sizzler Series for U.M.P. Modifieds paying $1,000 to win. Friday, September 18th will bring the NALMS Late Models to PIR for the Wayne Coakley Memorial which boasts $5,000 to win.

October 2nd will be our final night for the 2009 Season and will feature the crowning of our Track Champions for all of our divisions. Stay tuned to the track’s website for additional events to be announced in the near future including our Night of NASCAR Stars events featuring the Stars of NASCAR.

Weekly racing will include U.M.P. Late Models, U.M.P. Modifieds, U.M.P. Pro Late Models, U.M.P. Street Stocks, and U.M.P. 4 Cylinder Warriors, along with the Kentucky Vintage Racing Association and Mini Sprints on specified nights.
