Friday’s racing put a wrap on the 2008 season at PIR. 98 racecars in six divisions participated in Season Championships and Point Champions were determined.

UMP Late Models
Paducah’s Dylan Thompson won the battle and the war. He captured his second 20-lap feature of the season; but, more importantly, he won the Season Point Championship. It was a bridesmaid kind of evening for Jeff Walston of Paducah. Not only did he finish the feature in runner-up position, he finished second in the year-end point standings. Benton’s Tim Brown was third. Thompson and Walston won the heat races.

UMP Modifieds
Jeff Elliott of Mayfield led all 15 laps to win his second main event of the season. Paducah’s Todd Miller and Bryce Jewell of Madisonville followed. Elliott and Miller won heats. After his second place finish this evening, Todd Miller is the 2008 Modified Point Champion.

UMP Crate (Pro) Late Models
Tait Davenport of Paducah dominated the Crate division this season; tonight was no exception. Leading from green to checkered flag, he won his twelfth 15-lap feature - and the Point Championship. Ledbetter’s Adam Ray was second with Bobby Dauderman of Alhambra, IL third. Davenport, Ray, and Cary King won the heats.

UMP Street Stocks
After 12 laps, Mitch Fiers of Paducah took his first checkered flag of the season. Paul Howard of Calvert City was second with JR Mason of Mayfield third on the day he was featured in the Paducah “Sun”. Howard, Ryan Humphrey, and Mike Watson were heat winners. Pancho Elder of Paducah had a lock on the title and is the 2008 Street Stock Point Champion.

UMP Warriors
Mayfield’s Wes Henley took the lead on lap four and went on to win his first ten-lap feature. Matt Hartman of Paducah and Jeffrey Bailey of Calvert City were second and third. Henley and Joseph Mullins won the heats. The closest point race of the evening was between Bailey Gilbertsville’s Keaton Downing. With his fourth place finish, Downing won the Point Championship.

Vintage Racers
In the 12 lap season-ender, Dave Davidson of Henderson took the checkered flag ahead of Dennis English of Palma and Chad Fritsche of Puryear, TN.

For the second week in-row, at intermission drivers passed through the grandstands collecting donations in their helmets for Midwest Sprint Car driver, Kenny Biro of Bargersville, IN, who was injured at PIR on August 1. $768.21 was collected – and – adding the $1177.42 collected last week, PIR will be sending Kenny a total of $1945.63 to be used toward his recovery.

PIR Management thanks fans and competitors for a great 2008 season. In the near future PIR’s web site will provide information about the 2008 Banquet and the 2009 season, which will begin in the spring.
