pathetic

Jimmy Cummins

CEO, Cummins Lumber Co.
the last time i raced at belleville, the modifieds ran 30 laps and had 13 cautions. tonight, we ran 20 laps and from what i was told we had 15 cautions. this is inexcusable. i am not wanting to beat my chest or anything, but i have raced 51 nights in my modified this year and havent spun completely out one time, some people i race with can barely make it 5 laps without spinning out. if you dont think this is bad, my moms cousin came to the races tonight for the first time in his life to watch me race, he got there with his girlfriend at intermission and apparently was so digusted by the racing they left halfway thru the modified feature. maybe they should put some of these guys on probation and if they cause 1 yellow they are parked. the late models were embarassing too. i also cant figure why these guys continue to race and run around and get lapped when their bodies are dragging the ground, laying on the top of their fuel cell, completely ripped off, i mean WTF??? is that fun? i got 3rd and had a miserable time.

Jimmy your just a very good driver, maybe these other people arent as fortunate as you, maybe they need a little help with there cars, maybe you should see if they need help, and give them a hand with a horrible handling car,or tell them when to get in and off the gas,i know people will be bashing me on this one, some people dont understand how to adjust on it,its just an opinion, not trying to start anything.

Racing isnt like it use to be many years ago, everything is top secret amongst drivers and i totally understand that too...It would be like training someone to take your job because a lot of racers really depend on there winnings as a week to week paycheck....but i agree you have some people that are not the best drivers, cars that dont handle and people that are just to stuborn to let someone help...and then you have some that fit all 3

It got pretty ridiculous last night. I had a friend from up north that came down for the WoO show and we booked it to Belleville so we could at least see some features. I think it was just one of those things that can't be explained. I saw guys that typically don't have troubles that couldn't keep the car pointed in the right direction. I agree that it wasn't very much fun to watch, but I see no way to correct it.

Kudos to the sportsman class for running green - checkered.

Well,it almost was not flag to flag,,when a car and driver that quite frankly is better than me n my old junk, used my left front for traction the urge to make a left turn does go through my senile mind,,especially when i attended the bud pursley school of agressive driving back in the day,,but having respect for other drivers stopped me...even if they show mE no respect,,guess i am the rodny dangerfield of the dirt track...lenny garson

Bob Wente once told us in a drivers meeting........its a show....not a race. Stink the show...and it hurts.

The problem is to many drivers want to go fast before they learn how to keep they're car straight and under control. Basicly it's a lack of respect for their competitors and the fans in the stands, there were a few drivers at Belle-Clair last night that owe both an apology.

I definately have to agree with you Jimmy. That was a very painful feature to watch last night. I am guilty of spinning out in the past but some people out there really need to do there homework on setups and or throttle control. The modifieds is not a beginner class and these drivers should have enough experience to have alittle better handle on there car. Yeah i know that no one is perfect but you do have to draw the line somewhere.

BTW great job all night last night jimmy!

i have some advice:

1. work on your car so that it isnt pulling big wheelies and you cant control it.
2. when the track is black and slick, slow down.
3. when your car gets side ways, get off the gas.
4. slow down and make decent laps until you can race a whole night without spinning out, and once you can do that speed up just a little bit more as long as you dont spin out.
5. use common sense.
6. when cars are spun out in front of you, try not to hit them. looking past your air cleaner helps this.

No one mentioned the poor track preparation. Turn one and two were so full of deep ruts I saw two cars hit them and the whole left side of the car lifted off the ground. No doubt the track conditions played some part in all the cautions. The bad thing is, is that the ruts were there well before intermission. During intermission, who ever was operating the grader didn't go withing 5 feet of those ruts to smooth them out....that's just plain wrong. Management needs to send that guy over to Pevely to learn how to prep a track.

problem is you have guys who have been running hornets that want to move from 90 hp to 750 hp and cant quite see where there is a problem and i am not talking about bittle either most of these guys run a division one season aND think they are ready for big time lets be honest modified division is no longer support class they are pro class look at what they show up in can u tell modified from latemodel from outside put any 750 hp motor on little tire and your going to have problems with inexperience `

Thats is a wrong statement if i have ever heard of one. Curt at Belleville is one of the best track prep guys in the area. He puts alot of time and pride in that track. No track is ever perfect but in my opinion that track was pretty good last night despite the dusty conditions but big deal. With belleville being a small track and not owned by people with endless pockets (or very well padded pockets) he does a excellent job with the equipment that he has to work with. If you give Curt the type of equipment that I-55 has for track prep then he would be just that much better. But to say he needs to take lessons from I-55 is just flat out stupid.

the race was pathetic and the track wasnt the best. when you hit the same hole lap after lap and are all over the place maybe you should change your line and or slow down. the 22 car causes yellows every week, the 17 is all over the place (fast cars without a driver ) but there is nothing that you can do but hope you miss guys like that. the only thing i ask of allied to do is put a time limit on the races. I was ready to load my pure stock and not come back til next year and hope that a dozen guys went to driving school or found a new hobby.

Agreed!! Good post!

Normally Belleville isn't overly bad. But I'm sorry the craters in turn 1 were totally unacceptable. Why not till it up while the nickel race was going on. Tiller kills the ruts and grater smooths the cushion. Idk maybe there was only one guy that could operate the machinery. I also understand with the threat of rain things had to be sped up. But I dare anyone to argue that a 7 inch deep rut (yes I measured it) is safe to race on. As far as the drivers, yeah some are rolling chicanes. It should and may be the discretion of the competition director to not allow a driver to race if he poses a serious threat to themself or another car. I wont call anyone out but they know who they are. Maybe these drivers don't have the sense to know they're in over their head. Maybe it will take an official to step in. But SOMETHING needs to be done before someone gets hurt because someone doesn't pay enough attention to see a 3 car pileup from 50 feet away and drive straight into a drivers door.

Jimmy nice run. I don't think your car came off the bars even under yellow

hey 3ABrest,what i do in the late model is purely financial and besides i dont want to get in the leaders way,the sportsman is another matter,,i ran 95% of the feature lapes this year,,ya dont finish 7 in points by pulling out early,,the only time that works is for b.c. LOL

i wasnt track champ or nothing but a little help with setup to those wit little exp helps. My son used to get so mad at me for helpin the "new" guys but i only helped till they got on the lead lap then left it up to them . Also they may need a few used items you guys are sellin to help with thier equipment. If they are on the lead lap accidents and cautions go away and the equipment you save may dang well be your own, Also the amount of respect you get from a not so experianced driver will go along way when they do figure it out later and are right on your bumper. This is all good unless you dont need or want the competition. Friendships made at the track dont always go away when the brain bucket goes on. well almost Tom Filkins 07
