pinion angle and travel

I have been playing with pinion angle and travel and broke the spline off of my pinion gear which led to a bad chain reaction in transmission and drive shaft. Any insight would be appreciated thanx.

Now you no why ya don't "play" with your pinion angle. Set at 6 to 8 degrees and if everything else is right you'll be ok. There is no advantage to be gained by running more or less angle.

How does a modified chassis have so much chassis movement and not run into drive line trouble. My pinion angle was only 5 deg. but the chassis travel I believe is what was excessive. I was in lap traffic and pedaled the accelarator pretty fast, upper and lower arm angles generate the bite but also affect pinion angle. I guess what I am asking is there a formula to calculate pinion travel and what the safe operating range is. thanx for the info
