Ponderosa Speedway’s NASRA 11th Annual Hugh “Junebug” Rowland Memorial Set for April 23

Junction City, KY-April 15, 2010- Ponderosa Speedway track promoters Larry, Chad, and Sarah Yantz are pleased to honor the memory of one of the true gentlemen of the dirt racing industry in Central Kentucky when “Kentucky’s Baddest Bullring” presents the 11th Annual Hugh “Junebug” Rowland Memorial event on Friday evening April 23.
The National All Star Racing Association will make its first-ever sanctioning appearance at Ponderosa Speedway for this event and will be in charge of the Super Late Model portion of the program that evening. The event will feature a full program of practice, time trials, qualifying heats, B-Mains, and the 40 lap, $3,000 to win 11th Annual Hugh “Junebug” Rowland Memorial A-Main. Also on the racing card for April 23 will be the Clayton Homes UMP Modifieds and Bob Allen Motor Mall Pro Late Models, with both divisions competing in 20 lap, $600 to win feature events, with it also being a double track points night for the Pro Late Model division. The D&D Pallet Recyclers UMP Sportsman will have the evening off. All divisions will time trial at this event.
Activities for this special April 23 event at Ponderosa Speedway will see the pit area open at 4:00 p.m., with the grandstand area open at 5:00 p.m. A mandatory drivers meeting takes place at 6:45 p.m., with practice set to begin at 7:00 p.m., followed by time trials at 7:30 p.m., and racing taking the green flag at 8:30 p.m. Ticket prices in the general admission area will be $15 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12, and children under age 6 are free. A pit pass will be $30.
The Hugh “Junebug” Rowland Memorial event first appeared on the Ponderosa Speedway schedule in 1999 and has been contested ten previous times and produced eight different event winners. Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN won the inaugural running of the race back in 1999, with Jay Mobley of Harrodsburg, KY taking the win in the 2000 event, while Dustin Neat of Dunnville, KY scored the race victory in 2001. The event was not held in 2002, but returned in 2003 as Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN would become the first repeat winner of the race by following up his ’03 win with a victory in the 2004 contest. Bryan Barber of Greensburg, KY won his biggest career Super Late Model event with a win in the 2005 “Junebug”, while Joey Daniel of Liberty, KY would win a special Saturday night version of this event on an unseasonably cool night in May of 2006. Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY would etch his name in the ‘Junebug” record books with his stellar performance in the 2007 race, while Victor Lee of Danville, KY would become the second two-time winner of the event with dominating back-to-back wins in 2008 and 2009.

Ponderosa Speedway is located just off of 365 Phillips Lane on the Boyle/Lincoln County border, outside of Junction City, KY, just minutes from Danville, KY.
