Poplar Bluff, MO (October 22, 2005) Jeremy Payne took home the $6,060 top prize in the Modified Summer 60 at Poplar Bluff Speedway. Payne, who's car suffered major damage to the left front suspension in the opening few laps, kept a smooth line and led the final 30 laps of the event to earn the victory. Jared Landers took command of the race at the drop of the green flag from the pole position. The first caution waved on lap three when Bob Test had mechanical problems coming out of turn four and as he moved to the infield he collect Denny Schwartz who was underneath him. Schwartz got airborne as he went over the left front tire of Test's machine. Schwartz ended up spun on the front straight. On the restart, Landers took command again as he powered away from the field. The caution would wave again on lap eleven when Michael Murphree spun in turn four and once again Schwartz got caught up in the incident sending him to the back on the restart once again. Landers once again pulled away on the restart as he moved out to a comfortable lead. By lap twenty-five, Landers began working lapped traffic. Trouble struck for Landers on lap thirty when Michael Maggard, who was just in front of Landers, made contact with Mike Francis and sent Francis spinning in turn three. Landers couldn't avoid contact with the spinning car of Francis and suffered a flat right front tire. Landers was able to come back out and restart from the tail of the field. That turned the lead over to second place running Payne. By this time, Scott Weber had moved through the field from his sixteenth place starting spot to the second position immediately behind Payne. Payne, even with the damaged left front, was too strong as he pulled away on the lap thirty-one restart. The race went green until lap fifty-one when Tony Fowler and Tony Anglin made contact in turn four, causing Anglin to stop on the high side in turn four. Anglin was able to restart, but Fowler's night was over. The red came out during this caution to allow teams to refuel their cars. Once the green flag flew, Payne was able to hang on and take the win. Weber crossed the line in second, with Robby Arnold taking third. Wayne Brooks crossed the line in fourth. Schwartz worked his way from the back after being in two early incidents to finish fifth. In victory lane, Payne's car appeared to have a broken spindle, A-frame as well as a flat tire on the left front. The top of the tire and wheel were laid over all the way onto the car's frame.
