Joins Beckley in Joint Friday/Saturday Night Effort

PRINCETON, WV-- The American Motor Racing Association (AMRA) proudly announces the signing of Princeton Speedway to a full time AMRA modified sanction in 2011. Princeton will join Beckley Motorsports Park as an anchor for the organization in Southern West Virginia. After leasing the fast four-tenths mile facility over the past several years, Princeton Speedway owner Melvin Bishop will take over the reigns of the Princeton Speedway full time in 2011.
For those fans who are familiar with the way Princeton Speedway has looked in the past, Bishop and his crew are making some major changes to the four-tenths mile facility. The front stretch is being moved out to a more long, sweeping shape. Brand new clay has been added and the turns banked more from top to bottom. There will be several new sets of lights added, and a new fence will be put up around the front side of the speedway.
Additionally, a brand new concession stand is already being built in the pit area. There will be new grandstands in place on the front stretch, along with a new digital scoreboard among many other improvements at the track.
"I am pleased that Princeton will be with us all season this year," said AMRA President Larry Keefer. "This is a great addition to our series and is a key to our expansion efforts. I would like to welcome Princeton Speedway and the Bishop family to the AMRA."
"Princeton Speedway and Beckley Motorsports Park combined will anchor the AMRA in this region," said Scott Wolfe Director of Racing Operations. "They are premier tracks with grass roots racing history. Jim Williams and Beckley have long been a key to the success of AMRA. Now that the two tracks are working together can only be a positive for both tracks, the AMRA, and the racers. I'd like to welcome Princeton aboard the AMRA freight train. The AMRA is gaining some steam for a great 2011 season."
Melvin Bishop of Princeton and Jim Williams of Beckley are on the same page. The two have agreed that it just makes good sense for the two tracks to work together for the racers, and share the same rules for all classes. The rules for Street Stock, Hornets, and U-Cars will be the same for both tracks, with the Crate Late Models being Fastrak sanctioned. Princeton will also run Modified Streets, Pro-Mini Stocks, and Mini-wedges.
"Since our tracks are so close together, it's a win-win situation for both of us," added Bishop. "This will allow the racers to run both tracks, without making any major changes to remain legal." Competitors are asked to check the rules for each division on respective speedway websites.
Both tracks will run modifieds under the AMRA banner. Princeton will carry on the tradition with the Modified Street class, as well as the Pro Mini stock class. Beckley will keep running the AMRA Super Lates.
"This is a great deal for the racers," said AMRA competitor Joe Cox. "With the few AMRA races we had at Princeton last year, the car counts grew at both Princeton and Beckley. We now have some guys building cars in the area and the interest in the modifieds is really growing. Having two nights a week to race will help this class grow to new levels here in Southern West Virginia."
Princeton has announced that Allen Lucas has been hired as tech man for Princeton Speedway for the 2011 racing season. Allen has been the tech man for Beckley Motorsports Park, and will now be teching at both tracks.
Says Melvin Bishop, "Allen knows his way around a racecar, and as some of you know.. he knows how to find what he's looking for, but he is fair and he is good at what he does. Since we are working together with Beckley and with the AMRA, having Allen doing tech at both places will add consistency to our efforts and help both tracks achieve consistent tech."
