QUESTION: Do you think a FULL-SIZED eight-cylinder truck class would go over

doug

I know what utley did.......im saying just let them run a truck body on the metric chassis using strickly the SS /charger/bomber rules........dont need a seperate class....run them together...so if you only have 3...thats 3 more in the race than was there....if you start getting to many....and i dont know of any promotors that think any number is too many...but if they did...and the support was there........then split the classes....but in the beginning...they run together.under the same rules...only difference is the body!

I AGREE WITH DALE ON THIS ONE. UTLEY'S TRUCK WAS A LITTLE MORE FANCY THAN I THINK WOULD GO OVER. I THINK IF YOU JUST LET THEM PUT A TRUCK BODY ON A SS/BOMBER CHASSIS. THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO COMPETE BETTER.

At I-70 Speedway they have what is called Strucks. They are car frames with either a car or truck body. The class is 60% trucks now. I think at short bed truck wou;d be better than the full size long beds. They run at Moberly and Callaway, and the short bed trucks are alot better.

I have a little bit of experience around the "Thunder Trucks" as they were/are called at Callaway and Moberly. I had two buddies who built them to originally race at Moberly in the late 90's. One of them built a mid-70's Chevy C-10 long bed the other had a late-60's Chevy C-10 short bed. When the class was created at Moberly they were (by rules) to be stock trucks with the exception that they were allowed to run 9in. Ford rears. They were allowed beadlocks on the right front and rear. G-60/15 American Racer Tires and any engine/tranny configuration that could have been available in that particular truck model and year. That meant 4 barrel carbs were okay as long as they were Q-Jets on Chevys ,Therm-O-Quads on Dodges, and Motorcraft on Fords (no Holleys were allowed). After about a month of running there were only about 8 or 10 trucks running and no others were being built. All of the truck owners got together and talked to the track promoter and he allowed them to open them on up.

This is where it got really crazy! Three or four of them started building A-Mod or Late Model grade drivetrains to win $200. Dart heads were okay, Holleys were okay, Areosols were okay, MSD's were okay, Powerglides with couplers were okay. It just really got out of hand. The same two guys were fighting it out to win the $200 every week and it just got very boring.

When Moberly went asphalt, Callaway Raceways in Fulton picked them up for a short time and the 10 trucks fell to four and the payout went with them. Shortly after that, Callaway dropped the class entirely. I believe Moberly is running them again since they have returned to dirt but by the way the rumor mill sounds Moberly is just about out of business again.

ok

Thats what utley did at tcs....first he had to run with the sportsman....then they made him move to late models..and he blew almost every nite!

What im suggesting is just truck bodies on car chassis's....or on a truck chassis.....but have to be limited to the local Bomber/Pure Stock/SS(at some tracks)rules!

The only change in the car or truck would be purely the body!

Still a stock firewall...front and back...stock floor pan...no weight jacks.....still the bone stock class...with the exception of a truck body!

Would be basically purely for cosmetic reasons...looks!

If anything the truck may have a slight dissadvantage with the more square front end,and higher cab!

From what I have been told the I-70 trucks are set on 77-90 Impala frames. That would make for plenty of extra parts.

i have to agree with dean, if you are gonna run purestreet rules you might as well just give the purestreets the option of running truck bodies, now if you wanna get creative try s-10 pickups with 406's on methanol with big ole latemodel tires. could you imagine the carnage!!!!!!!!
I've heard that at some track they were running V8 S10s with the pure streets just to see how they would go over with the fans.

I still think one of you ministock guys should V8 one of those trucks.
