Fireworks were in the sky as well as on the track as the top midwest Modified drivers made their way into Central Missouri Speedway for the Farm & Home/T-Mobile $3,000 to win Tom Wilson Memorial Modified Special and the fans in the stands didn't leave disappointed.

Jason Hughes scored a victory for the travelers as he successfully held on for the win in the 40 lap affair. Hughes started from the pole position and set sail at the drop of the green with Saturday night winner Marc Dotson looking for a line to the front. Hughes built a comfortable margin up that fell by the wayside on lap 7 when the cars of Richard Layne and Bubba Harvey came to a stop in turns 1 & 2 which bunched up the field again. The green waved once again, but was quickly replaced by the yellow as front runner Tim Karrick, Gary Blackburn Jr., Joe McBirnie, and Lance Kobush all found themselves coming together and causing another stoppage that saw on McBirnie able to continue on. Once the green waved again Hughes bolted out to his comfortable margin with Doston still holding down the runner-up spot and a hard charging Dustin Boney working into third after starting in the ninth position. The leaders began to work lapped traffic as the field was slowed for the spinning car of JD Kelley on lap 18. The attempt to restart was once again short lived as Joe McBirnie found himself pointing the wrong direction in turn four which bunched the field up just before the halfway point of the race. The race resumed with the leaders working the corners both high and low until the yellow waved for the cars of Bubba Harvey, Richard Layne and Dean Wille who gotten together and stopped on the track. Unfortunately neither Layne nor Harvey were able to continue the event. The field raced down the frontstretch as the green replaced the yellow with Hughes pacing the field still and Dotson hanging on for second. The real battle for position began to brew as Terry Schultz dove his #90 underneath the hard charging Dustin Boney to take over the third position. Not to be outdone Boney repaid the favor by ducking under Schultz in an attempt to regain the spot. For the next several laps those two drivers had the fans worked into a frenzy as the continued to battle for the spot running side by side and making two to three passes per lap. Lap 28 saw the 8m of James McMillin suffer a mechanical failure and bump the nose of his mount into the concrete wall on the front stretch. McMillin was fine and the car suffered only minor damage, but his night ended with the slow ride back to the pits. Herschel Thompson had the green flag waving again and a new face made his presence felt in the top 5 as Joe Bradshaw made the pass to move his way to the fourth spot. The laps began to wind down and Hughes had built up a comfortable margin of nearly twelve carlengths over Dotson and was looking to race home to the win. All didn't go according to plan for Hughes as Robbie Test brought out the final caution on lap 35 as his machine developed handling problems as his machine put up and over in turn 2. Test was able to drive his car back around, but went to the pits and retired for the evening. The field raced under the green flag for a five lap shootout and Dotson put on a heavy challenge for the top spot as he pulled alongside Hughes down low, but the moved wouldn't stick and he had to settle back into the second position. Over the final five laps Hughes distanced himself from the pack and held on to win by 10 carlengths as Marc Dotson held on for the second spot. Dustin Boney and Joe Bradshaw both charged from their fifth row starting spots to finish third and fourth Steve Potter rounding out the top 5 after the 40 lap shootout.

Four heat races were contested with the top 3 locking in their positions in the A feature. Heat one went to Desoto, KS native Dustin Boney, while Joe Bradshaw held on for the heat two victory. Tom Charles wrapped up his transfer position with the third heat race win while Joe McBirnie claimed the final heat victory of the night.

Two B Feature rolled off with the top two transferring on which saw the #03 of Richard Layne work to the front and win the first B while Bubba Harvey found himself rolling across the line first in the second B feature.

A special dash was held for the eight heat race winners from Saturday night. By virtue of those wins each driver had secured himself a starting position in the A feature with the finish of the dash finalizing their starting positions. Jason Hughes found himself at the front of the pack on lap two after starting outside row two and flashing on to the win.

Pit Notes:

- It was great to have guest announce Doug Neff on the mic for this special night. Doug did great on the fill in work while weekly announcer Scotty Cook called all the action in Sedalia at Missouri's State Fair Speedway.
- What a special night it was to honor the memory of a racing icon such as Tom Wilson. Several of Tom's family including wife Valerie, daughters Stephanie and Valerie along with grandson Brent were in attendance to catch the nights activities.
- Several drivers were unable to return to action on Sunday due to mechanical issues most notably Concordia's own Dave Meyer who found out Sunday morning that the rear end in his machine was bent to much to fix in time. Look for Dave to have his familiar #9 back in action next Saturday as he continues to look for his first win of the season.
- A great tradition continued as Earl and Susan Walls presented a beautiful fireworks display to celebrate the Fourth of July.
- Tragedy struck CMS on Friday as Track Preparation specialist Jerry Boeh was fatally injured while working on his personal vehicle. Jerry will be greatly missed by the staff of Central Missouri Speedway and we would like to send out our condolences to the Boeh family in this time of sorrow.

Join us next week as the Jayhawk Racing Journal/Rainbow Center Race Night kicks off. This will also be the final round of the Budweiser Progressive $ for Modifieds where a $1,500 bonus is on the line for the driver who can double up with wins at both Missouri's State Fair Speedway in Sedalia on Friday and Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg on Saturday. Gates open at 5:00 with hot laps taking to the track at 7:00 and heat races rolling off at 7:30. Adult admission is only $10.00 with Seniors $8.00, children 6-12 only $6.00 and under 6 free.
