Rattliff Rolls to First Career Win in Modified Action at Barren County Speedway

Glasgow, KY-October 3- A total of 71 race cars signed in for the 2004 finale at Barren County Speedway and Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, KY scored his first Modified feature of his career in his rookie season of action. Other feature race winners included Robbie Houchens of Glasgow, KY in Pure Street, David Huff of Tompkinsville, KY in Pro Street, Scott Shelton of Cookeville, TN in Chevettes, and Robbie Houchens also won the Frontrunner feature.

The Modified feature would see polesitter Rattliff take the lead at the drop of the green flag, with Jimmy Payne riding by Roger Vincent for second on lap 2, with Timmy York fourth and Butch Shay fifth. Caution waved for the first time to slow the field as Kelly Riggs spun his unit in turn four. Rattliff would again lead, with Payne second, as Shay would jump to fourth on lap 4 and would battle Vincent for third with York right there as well as the caution came out for a spin by Chuck Freeman in turn four. This restart would see Shay roll past Vincent for third on lap 8 and by lap 11, Robbie Sanders would pressure York for fifth. Freeman would be charged with his second caution on lap 14 with a spin in turn two and would go pitside. Rattliff and Payne would continue to mix it up for the top spot and Rattliff would pull away a bit from Payne until the final caution of the race waved on lap 22 when Riggs would loop his mount again, this time in turn two. The final four laps would see the lead pair battle it out for the top spot, with Rattliff taking the win as the 17 year old drove the James Rattliff owned Campbellsville Rent-A-Car, Rattliff Motors, Key Aviation #16 Bandit Race Cars entry. Payne would go second, with Shay third, with Vincent and Ricky Huff completing the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Gary Isaacs, Jeff Jones, Elliott Despain (in only his second time ever racing stock cars), Bill Geiger, and Kelly Riggs. Rattliff was fast qualifier at 14.86 seconds, with heat wins going to Rattliff, Vincent, and Payne.

Robert Houchens scored the 15 lap Pure Street feature win in the Eugene Houchens owned Lyon's Towing, Houchens Racing, Glasgow Quarry, Sweetheart's Bakery sponsored #05 entry. Greg Brooks, Garnett Eldridge, Bryant Wilson, Sr., and Josh Allen completed the top five. The remainder of the top ten were David York, Terry Kelsay, Shane Litton, Tim Donohoo, and David Jones. Heats were won by Houchens, Brooks, and Mike McGaha, with Eugene Houchens winning the B-main.

David Huff won the 15 lap Pro Street feature for the second time this season in his B and P Grocery, Lyon Towing, Hillbilly Racing Technology, Studle Tax Service #7. Veteran Clifton Wheeler would take second, with Daryl Butler, Jeff Lyon, and Jeff Centers rounding out the top five. Completing the top ten were Daniel Bledsoe, Terrellton Young, Thomas Uptegraft, Ronnie Rogers, and Charles Benham. Wheeler and Huff won the heats.

Scott Shelton picked up his sixth Chevette feature at Barren County and 30th of the season in the Houston Montgomery owned Montgomery Engineering owned #3m. Completing the top five were Leymon Winchester, Donald Winchester, Timmy Steenbergen, and John Huff. Shelton also won the heat.

Robert Houchens made it two wins for the night by coming back to win the Frontrunner feature in the Lloyd McCoy owned unsponsored #13 entry. Michael Thomason was second, with Mike Todd, J.R. Wheeler, and Brandon Pearson completing the top five. Todd was the heat winner.
