Granite City, IL – J.J. Yeley plans to continue his winning pace when he leads a contingent of USAC stars against the best SCRA drivers in the August 16 “Summer Sprint Car Shootout” at Tri-City Speedway.

Yeley’s record-setting season, which includes setting the single season win mark at 20 with his victory August 8 at the Belleville Midget Nationals, tops both A.J. Foyt, who recorded 19 wins in 1961, and Jay Drake, who notched 19 in 2000.

Featuring the cars and drivers of the United States Auto Club (USAC) and the Sprint Car Racing Association (SCRA) from California, the “Summer Sprint Car Shootout” is the only clash between the non-wing Midwest and West Coast sanctioning bodies for the Non-Wing World Championship for Sprint Cars.

The USAC contingent is led by the nation's winningest driver, Yeley, and includes defending champion Tracy Hines, Dave Darland, Jay Drake, Tony Elliott and Bud Kaeding.

Richard "The Gasman" Griffin, the four-time SCRA champion and winner of the June 14, 2001 SCRA headliner at Tri-City Speedway, leads SCRA regulars Damian Gardner, Cory Kruseman, Tony Jones, Rip Williams and Troy Rutherford into Tri-City’s huge half-mile speed plant.

Over 40 Sprint car teams are expected to gather for this one time only "Summer Sprint Car Shootout" that features the big 30-lap main event.

Spectator gates open at 5:00 p.m., Time Trials at 7:00 p.m. and Racing at 8:00 p.m. Adult tickets (General Admission only) will be $22.00 each and children (12 and under) FREE with an adult.

Tri-City Speedway is located one-half mile south of I-270 on Illinois Route 203 south (exit 4).
