Restarts?

This thread started out as a discussion about double file restarts (which I am all for by the way) and I hate to hijack it, but I agree with Rusty on his latest post. I've actually been saying the same thing for a few years now. The cost of a Late Model has outgrown the independent saturday night racer and there are a few well funded teams who are dominating the local tracks. Could you imagine the car counts if mods were paid $1200 to win and $100 to start at a weekly show? How about bombers being paid $300 to win. In the time that I have been racing, modifieds have made leaps and bounds in the quality of racing and are plenty capable of being the headlining class at most local tracks. Some tracks are just holding on too tight to a dwindling late model class and its not doing anyone any good. Tracks would only be able to run 3 or 4 classes a night with this payout because they wouldn't have room in the pits for all of the cars. And the total purse would actually be smaller. If none of the classes have full fields and everybody gets a check at the end of the night, how can the track make enough money to survive. If this were done, I'm sure I would be one of those guys going home without a check some nights, but its better than having race cars sitting in the shop and nowhere to race them.

Agree with mkoch96 and Kermit's last post. Racing needs to be affordable (better payouts) for the regular racer, who is racing for a hobby with minimal sponsors, to succeed. They are what keeps the tracks operating. The fan gate price has to remain at it's "affordable/current" level. So increased car counts are the only way to make it profitable for track owners to operate and have higher payouts.
For the record I am not a racer and certainly no expert on the subject. I am and have been a fan/spectator. My dad took me to dirt track races (because it was affordable) when I was a little kid, I continued going along with my wife, took my kids as they came along. Both my son's got into racing and I have been involved in their endeavors.
Racers are competitors, no matter what they choose to get into, they are in it for a good finish, a chance to put forth their best effort.

Im a low budget racer and I say yes. Same thing with dashes. Sure both could result in my car get torn up but I'm there to race not try to squeak by and convince myself I'm making money racing..lol
Have not made a dime yet, so no. Not trying to convince myself of anything.
