Rodney Melvin

Why is it that drivers that do well have to be disected? Can proformance prove what a driver can do?
Dixon is good at I-55.
Melvin is good at Mt. Vernon.
Faust is good at Highland.
There are drivers that can stay out of trouble and there are drivers that cause themselves problems at times.
Why not just enjoy the racing at the track you go to? If you want to see how well another driver is doing on a Saturday night, take one or more nights and go to the other tracks and see how the other drivers does. It is the experience on the tracks that makes a driver better at his task.
Rodney Melvin has done well at Mt. Vernon this year.
Rick Heck does own his car. Why is that a problem? He does not drive it so he can't win races. The driver wins the race based on track conditions and the way the car drives that night. If everything is good then he wins.
Enjoy the races and if you have a favorite driver root for that driver and leave the others to enjoy the sport.

The question I have is that moonflow said (I also caught wind of a rumor that the person who owns Mt. Vernon's track also owns Melvin's car, but I don't know if it is true. The track owner also apparently dumped a ton of money into Melvin's car.) Does that mean that dixon don't have a ton of money in his car?? Or anyone else???????? And I also have herd Rodney come by the stands after the feature and blow the tires off just to show people he dont have traction control!!!!!!!!! Herd it myself ! By the way is there a spending limit on what you can spend on your car in ump? It gets so sickening of hearing about I 55 being the place to race like theres no other place on the planet that has tougher compition? Man you need to get out more!
just my 1 1\2 cents!!!!!!!!

Wallbanger

Wallbanger, I am not defending Rodney or Eddie BUT you do not have to be from Mt. Vernon or Pevely to consider them your hometown track. Perfect example: Don Klein is from Ste. Genevieve and he considers Belleville his hometown track. So that is not even an issue here. Move on to next reasoning behind.......

In addition; no matter where you race or who you are, if you are kicking butt in racing you are the target of every Tom, Dick and Harry that doesn't like to see a good driver with great sponsorship who can support you in all aspects. Some racers are just more fortunate than others. I never have understood why people complain and gripe about having some of the best talent in the area. Hell enjoy what ya got and if you get tired of seeing the same people win, contact the track owner put up the bucks to put a bounty on them or find another track where you won't get the same results and share them with us. J/M/O

I'm really not trying to stir a big pot or anything. I heard a rumor, a see a driver with at least 7 more features than the nearest competition, and yet I've hardly seen hide nor hair of him.

And about the competition at I-55.....tell me, if Dixon dominates at I-55, and the competition is so weak here, then how is it that Dixon has only a 29 point lead over 2nd? The thing is, I don't see many other tracks with this tight of a points chase, because the competition here IS THAT GOOD. Not bashing other tracks....just tellin' it how it is.

Here's an idea...take the top 26 in national points at UMP, and let them run a series of races at the end of this year. Then we'll see who's who.

You know this year that they have ran a COC series, thats 20 races on 20 different tracks, thats not exactly right, some tracks did have 2 races. If you look at the results of that series, and none of these races at MVN, Rodney is in 2 place in points. 50 out of 1st.

Yes he's good. Just wondering what his record is on tracks that are bigger than a 1/4 mile. hope to see him next week at clay county speedway.

"Councilman Heck enjoys dirt late-model racing, winning the National Championship 2001, runner-up 2000 and third-place in the nation 2002. He and his wife are part owners of Mt. Vernon Raceway"

They sure make it look like Ricky Boy actually DROVE the car, Winning the National Championship 2001 and all.

An old man, a boy and a donkey were going
to town. The boy rode on the donkey and
the old man walked. As they went along
they passed some people who remarked
it was a shame the old man was walking
and the boy was riding. The man and boy
thought maybe the critics were right,
so they changed positions.

Later, they passed some people that remarked,
"What a shame, he makes that little boy walk."
They then decided they both
would walk! Soon they passed some
more people who thought they were
stupid to walk when they had a decent
donkey to ride. So, they both rode the donkey.

Now they passed some people that
shamed them by saying how awful to put
such a load on a poor donkey.
The boy and man said they were
probably right, so they decided
to carry the donkey. As
they crossed the bridge, they lost
their grip on the animal and he fell
into the river and drowned.

The moral of the story?
If you try to please everyone, you might as well...

Kiss your assss good-bye.

Have A Nice Day!

well just wanted to say after reading these posts I had one heck of a laugh...no pun intended. People never cease to amaze me. I guess it must be nice to be able to pull into all these tracks, Mt.Vernon, Godfrey, Highland, MontCo, Benton, Haubstadt, and so on, and the promoters just set the track up especially for you. Wow Rodney, you sure are special....LOL
Oh and yeah I can see why Rodney doesnt go to I55 all that stiff competion, I mean look how many of their drivers are in the top 10 in UMP points(1 -Ed Dixon who only runs Godfrey and I55). and then theres the COC schedule, they kicked butt there too...wait, only Dixon traveled from I55 to race...has he made the show yet?
Mt.vernon has had a variety of drivers this year. Billy faust has ran there several times. Jimmy Burwell, Joe Morris, Donnie Tudor(former UMP champ), Brent Kreke, just to name a few. so there are some good drivers that do race there.
I guess it must **** to be a winner, last year everyone said the same BS about English. get a life people. If you dont like the way the tracks are ran simple, dont go or just go buy your own! If you dont like whos winning and your favorite cant get the job done, buy ya a car and try your hand at it! I promise neither one are as easy as it may seem.
Oh and congrads Rodney on another well deserved UMP championship!!!!!;)

Melvin was a t Highland two weeks ago. On his Qualifiing run he had the car completely sideways, on he verge of loosing it, I believe he was in the top 5 qualifiers. He never lifted off the go pedal. Either he is one of the best ever or he has some help. you be the judge.

I must say Mr Melvin looked and acted like a
a total Idiot last night at Godfrey to the extent
he spun out two or three times and finally took
his own self out of the race.

Real race fans would not have to even ask such a dumb question. My husband and I have traveled to 5 states this year to see real racing. We have even been to I55. We get a pit pass and I talk with all the drivers. I have not seen Dixon and the people you claim are the most competitive in many races in other states. But there is one Illinois boy we do see (Rodney Melvin). Just last week he smoked Claycomb in Indiana, where was the I55 posse? I am not belittling any ones favorite driver, I just want people to know if you only go to one track you miss the big picture. Rodney does dominate Mt. Vernon on Saturdays-but what about all the other days of the weeks he is traveling state to state to race? Please give the guy a break.

PS we stood on Jim Shereks trailer with Kevin Gundecker at DQ last week, hope you all enjoyed the race as much as we did.

A REAL FAN AT THE TRACK.:D

I guess you missed Godfrey then......state of ILLINOIS....Runnin Rod got beat.......Last year it was all about English....now its Melvin.........just like baseball.....everyone is a Cardinals fan when there winning....
