MASON CITY, Iowa (May 30) – Josh Ruby turned in a racing gem in winning Monday’s River City Classic JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour feature at I-35 Speedway.
Ruby earned $1,000 and a spot on the 2011 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot for the Memorial Day IMCA Modified victory.
The only caution seen during the 30-lapper came on the original start. Once underway, outside front row starter Rich Smith pulled away while the seventh starting Ruby and Josh Foster tried to keep the leader in their sights.
Slowly but steadily, the two pulled closer and finally caught up again on lap 20. A three-car battle ensued in the final circuits and when Smith bobbled in turn four, both Ruby and Foster sped past.
Foster chased Ruby to the checkers. Smith ended in third, with Parker Brumm fourth and new point leader Ryan Dolan fifth.
Hard charger J.J. Wise moved up 10 spots to finish sixth. He’d raced to the $1,000 win in the rescheduled Skip Rose Memorial main event earlier in the afternoon at Mason City.
The third stop of the season for the series is at Cedar County Raceway in Tipton on Tuesday, June 14. That main event pays $1,000 to win and is a qualifier for the 2012 All-Star ballot.
