Rumors,Rumors- This Could be last Nascar race at TCS.

Why not run the hornets on the half and the rest of the classes on the 1/4 mile. :D

Run the latemodels on the half, with non lsb 55s or LM40s match I-55 or KLMS payout, and run Friday or Sunday. Then again you could try to take all the cars from Mt Vernon and Highland, then take your chances fighting I-55 for a fan base.

Its obvious that what they have been doing does not draw enough good cars, and enough paid attendace, or they would not be changing.

If there goal is to only be open for special events, not putting the latemodels on the half is the best way to accompligh it.

My opinion.....
As a life long resident of Granite City, a former racer at TCS and a great supporter of the sport, SUNDAY NIGHTS WOULD NOT WORK IN THIS CITY.....too many houses close by, and too much complaining about the noise and finishing times on regular Saturday night shows...
I agree that Nascar needs to go at TCS because of the following reasons....
A. Membership fee is ridiculous
WHY??? Yes, each class track champion and regional champions make good money at seasons end, as well as the so called National Champion, but you never hear about the drivers that finish 2nd through 10th or even in the top 15 in each class at TCS and what they get in point fund money..
I know because I finished 5th and 6th respectively at TCS in the short track sportsmen series and did not make 50.00 from NASCAR each year at seasons end...WOW my membership was worth that.....

B. Why would you run a track, in this area with so many dirt choices, and limit your car counts to members only. If other tracks rain out or are not running nobody is going to pay that membership fee for one or two nights....

C. Insurance argument....
Until proven otherwise, Ken Schraeder is no dummy and would not have his name associated with I-55 unless his insurance policies worked and were legit....no high membership fees there...

Bob Wente is a good promoter, he can bring in the big racing series too that track...his problem is with the weekly show....
NOTE TO BOB...go back to how it was before NASCAR, go unsanctioned, your own rules (they run their own rules anyway), keep bringing in the big shows, and make an attractive point fund, and you will get the car counts back.....JMO

Half mile all the way!

The only advantage I can see for Bob Wente and crew to not utilizing the half mile weekly is to not have to continually maintenance and work the big track.
If you want to run a steel block class...run one, have the rules set up to allow for a bullet-proof engine if you want that makes less power..... whatever it takes to save the engines, and put everyone on a harder tire......racers save all the way around.
In the late 70s and early 80's the late models on the half put on a hell of a show and they were today's sportsmans.
I think it would be a big mistake to have ownership of the only true half mile around the area and not use it to your advantage, exploit it for the monster track it is and put on a great show. The only reason I've ever known Wente not to have a consistent group of racers behind him is because of the way the program is ran with respect to the racers themselves.
Granted, I haven't been there the last few years but I doubt that it has changed in that respect. I think the whole concept of too hard on your engine is a bunch of crap. When we ran our modified on the half mile in 95, the majority of the season we ran an engine that was bought used for 2500.00 and we were second or third in points throughout the season. Sure there were times when more power would have helped but the fact is with a not too expensive engine we were competitive.
I know as a driver there is no comparison between racing on the half mile or being bored on the quarter. Two different worlds.
That is just my opinion..........

Competition should be driving people not super-speed. The "go faster, go faster" plauge has been eating away at racing for alot of years now. Alot of really good race tracks between here and Central Kansas have been lost to it.

i wish godfrey would go to sundays instead of tcs.one sunday godfrey had 45 ump late model in the house, they even had 10 big names on hand

I have heard that Godfrey can't run on Sundays anymore. The city folk don't like the noise level. Plus they need a special liscense to sell alchy on Sundays.

Wells lots of different points about TCS. Will it leave Nascar and go UMP? Changing the racing night will not happen. And the people of Gran City just need to relax. The noise from the track has been happening for a long time and when they moved next to a track noise was going to happen at least once a week. The owner wont tell you what he doing and if he does is it the truth r just another lie. He isnt a people person and does not care one cent what you think, hell he's the and he can do whatever his big heart wants.....
