Farmington, MO – (April 10) - After an extra week off due to weather. Four drivers made there way to the Winners Circle on Saturday evening at St Francois County Raceway.
Steve Short, Farmington, MO picked up the opening night win in the 410 Winged Sprint Division. Short used his front row starting position masterfully. His quest began from the pole position by virtue of his win in the Dash. Starting along side was the 2009 Champion, Joey Montgomery of Fredericktown, MO. The initial green came out, only to be followed by the red. The front row cars were headed into turn one, while at the end of the pack action took a different turn. Joey Boyd would get tangled up with some other cars and place the car on its side. Boyd walked away under his own power. Once restarted Short, Montgomery were chased by 2009 Queens Royale winner and 2008 Champion, Tommy Worley, Jr, Tim Montgomery and Jerrod Hull. These five would work through traffic, a couple of restarts for various problems, and fight for the win. The last restart found second place finisher Hull directly behind Short. The restart found Short dropping the hammer and pulling away for the win. He was followed across the line by Jarrod Hull, Sikeston, MO, third place finisher Joey Montgomery, Fredericktown, MO, fourth place Tim Montgomery, Fredericktown, MO and Tommy Worley, Jr. Worley brings it home for fifth. Worley by the way was driving a car owned by Jeff Wurst. Jeff will be in the car next week.
The A-Modified Division found a new face in the circle. Well not new, but it’s been a while. Billy “The Kidd” Smith, Bonne Terre, MO took his Nash Automotive, Kenny Wallace mount to the front and won his first of the season. Smith won his heat and placed second in the dash for the outside starting position in the feature. Smith, Jeremy Greenwalt, “Rooster” Griffin, Kent Nations and 2009 Champion David Shepard would fight for the win. Smith and Greenwalt separated themselves from the field only to be slowed by the caution flag. When all was said and done, Smith found pay dirt for his win. Jermey Greenwalt, Potosi, MO gets runner-up honors, followed by third place David Shepard of DeSoto, MO, fourth place goes to Kasey Nations, Farmington, MO and Jim Black, Bonne Terre, MO completing the top five.
Pure Street Division found a familiar face at the winners podium. Chris Boyd, Park Hills, MO is no stranger to Victory Lane as he won his first feature in 2010. Boyd was the 2007 Champion of the Division by winning an amazing 12 features that season. The challenge tonight for Boyd was to get by the car of Kasey Nations. Nation also doing double duty in the A-Modified Division. Nations took his Jim Randolph owned machine to the front on the start, but two restarts and 15 laps later, settled for a runner-up finish. Boyd, after getting around Nations, had little trouble with the field for the win. Nations, Farmington, MO finishes in the runner-up spot, followed by Jimmy Dunn, Park Hills, MO. for third. Fourth place honor go to Robbie Wells, Bellview, MO and finishing the top five, Eric Sarakas, Farmington, MO.
With this being the first season for the Limited Modifieds or B-Mods, it is only fitting that a “senior statesman” should get the win. After 24 season and 100+ feature wins, Kenny “The Hustler” Harris got that win. To get the win Harris slugged it out with Jim Hartzell, Sullivan, MO, Shannon Burch, Bismarck, MO, 2009 Pure Street Runner-up Shane Blair, Potosi, MO and Josh Hauf. Look for this class to grow and action to get a lot closer as the season goes forward.
