Springfield,Mo.-The traveling USMTS Modified Series rolled into SpringfieldRaceway to challange the Quick-Quarter Saturday Night in their only scheduled apperance of 2010 and showed the crowd why they are the Greatest Modified Show on dirt with 3 wide racing during the 40 lap feature and a near photo finish as the 8 time National Champion Kelly Shryock rallied in the final 2 laps to just nose ahead of Johhny Bone Jr and Ryan Gustin in capturing the feature event before a standing ovation from the crowd.During the week-The Speedway brought in over 4 loads of new dirt and Jerry Hoffman performed his prep magic to give the crowd an outstanding surface.

The action started with Rodney Sanders jumping from his pole spot with Shryock close behind. On lap 3 Shryock took to the bottom as the pack was 3 wide battling for positions.Shryock started to open up a 10 car length lead over Sanders as Local Racer Jim Body was leading a tight pack back in third place. With the pack getting fastest all eyes were on Mo-Kan Regional champion Jason Hughes and previous nights winner Ryan Gustin as they were starting a march forward. The first caution waved on lap 17 when Body who was holding a solid third place pulled low on the track in turn 3 and Rookie Johnny Scott broke a pullbar also pulled low. With Shryock leading the double-file restart,Johnny Bone Jr had been moving through the field and was in a great battle with Gustin,Tommy Weder Jr,Zack Vanderbeek and others.Shryock started to pull away and opened up about a 10 car length lead while 3 wide for positions was the norm.On lap 27,the final caution flew as Tommy Myer pulled high in turn 1 bringing out the final yellow and setting up another dramatic feature.on the restart,Bone Jr had found a sweet spot on the very high groove and was cutting into Shryock's lead with Gustin making a 4 wide move to move into third place and set his sights on the lead duo. With laps quickly ticking off,Bone caught the skyrocket king and kept the high groove working while Gustin was following. On lap 31,Bone pulled even with Shryock and the duo ran side by side with Gustin waiting to make his move while the race for fourth involved Vanderbeek,Sanders,Jon Tesch, former nation al champion Jason Krohn and a high flying Hughes along with Weder Jr.On lap 37,The Baby Bone grabbed the lead as the trio were still together and was credited with leading lap 38.The white flag flew with Shryock grabbing back the lead as Bone was setting for a last lap drive while Gustin was trying to make it three wide.heading into turn 2,Bone nosed ahead on the high groove with Shryock keeping the middle groove tight.Into turn 3,Bone swung wide on the top side with Shryock finding a little moisture on the very bottom as the leaders headed to the checkered with Shryock getting his front bumperjust ahead of Bone to grab the win with Bone,Gustin,Weder and Vanderbeek completing the top 5 as 17 of the 24 starters finished on the lead lap with only 2 cautions flying.

As Shryock went to the winner's circle,Bone and Gustin both pulled on the front stretch to shake the winner's hand as the crowd gave a standing ovation.

"Is that what everybody wanted to see?"asked an excited Shryock in the interview."The redraw is so important because of the talent and high level of competition.Tonight with Sanders redrawing the pole I knew it was going to be tough and this place is so racy that anybody could win tonight.Bone found the extra high groove and talk about racing clean. It doesn't get any better than that."

In support action current SportMod point leader Sean Williams likes it when extra money falls into the class as he took the lead from pole setter Andy Beauchamp going into turn 3 on the opening lap and never looked back in grabbing his third win of the season.Previous feature winner Bobby Maggard Jr came charging late in the race to grab the runner-up spot while veteran Wayne Graybeal came charging from his 4th row starting spot to grab third place with Roy Maynard and Eric Tinderholt completing the top 5 as only 1 caution flew early in the feature in the 20 lap event with 12 of the scheduled 18 starters finishing on the lead lap in a feature that was completed in just over 6 Minutes.

The Legend feature has plenty of fireworks and a dramatic last lap finish as point leader Justin Comer took advantage of a small bobble from leader Park Jones on the last lap in capturing the 20 lap event with Rob Watson right on their bumpers finishing in third spot.Dave Comer and a hard charging Rick Nichols completed the top 5.Comer had grabbed the lead for the opening two laps before Jones took control.David Bauer's luck turned from bad to good back to bad as after capturing 2 features this season was involved with Chuck Comer in a collision in turn on lap 7 ending both their nights.

The StreetStock event saw defending champion Robert High take advantage on his pole spot in capturing the feature win with a great battle for second place between Rex Frieze and Rusty forrest that went back and forth with Freize grabbing the runner-up spot.point leader Jack Hamer and Randy High had contact early in the race for position as Hamer did a great job of saving the car from spinning but lost seveal spots.

Action continues Sat night June 12th with a regular points show featuring A-Mods,SportMods,StreetStocks,Legends,PureStocks and Midwest Modz.Hot laps start around 6:05 with racing to begin a 7PM.
