BRITT, Iowa (Sept. 30, 2005) -- Kelly Shryock of Fertile, who clinched his seventh straight O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series title two weeks ago, powered to victory Friday night at the Pritchard Family Auto Stores Hancock County Speedway during the inaugural American Racer Fall Festival.
Shryock, who started third, held off O’Reilly USMTS nemesis Jason Hughes of Colcord, Okla., for the $1,000 victory. Brad McEwan of Storm Lake, Jeremy Mills of Garner and Watertown, S.D.'s Jon Tesch rounded out the top-5 finishers.
In Stock Car action, Todd Foster of Webster City captured the checkers to earn the outside front row starting spot for Saturday's $3,000-to-win finale. Second place went to Larry Portis of North Springs, followed by Jeff Nielsen of Pocahontas, Jeremy Ades of Goldfield and Chad Palmer of Renwick. Ewing, Neb.'s Mike Graber finished sixth to garner the final automatic transfer spot into Saturday's race.
In Hobby Stock action, Andy Altenburg of Truman, Minn., took the victory and will start on the outside of the front row in Saturday night's $1,000-to-win American Racer Fall Festival main event. Saturday night will feature the O’Reilly USMTS headliner with the top 4 points-earners from the first two nights garnering an automatic spot in the 12-car redraw for Saturday's $10,000-to-win American Racer Fall Festival finale.
Saturday's main event for the Stock Cars will pay $3,000 to win, with $1,000 each going to the winner of the Hobby Stock and B-Modified feature races.
Saturday will also feature 2450-lb. Modifieds racing for $1,000 to win (no entry fee) and $100 to start the main event. Rules for this class will be American Racer G60 tires, no spoilers, no roller cams, no aluminum heads and a minimum weight rule of 2,450 pounds.
Gates will open at 2 p.m. with hot laps at 5 p.m. and racing to follow. General admission grandstand tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and FREE for children 5 and under. Pit passes are $30.
The Hancock County Speedway is located 1.3 miles south of U.S. Hwy. 18 on James St. (turns into Main Ave. and Diagonal and 1st), then 0.5 mile east on 220th Ave., then 0.1 mile north on Jewel Ave., then east (at the Hancock County Fairgrounds).
