Slay Takes MSCCS SCMP Win and Point Lead!

Columbus, MS- The MSCCS Super Late Models invaded the banked quarter mile Simpson County Motorsports Park in D’Lo, Mississippi for round #3 on the 2004 tour. Scott Slay of Clinton, MS would take the win in a flag to flag run and $2,500 50-lap main event win over the 33-car field on hand.

Action got underway for the event with Brown Engineering Pole Qualifying with Randy Walters earning the Fast Gun of the evening with a 14.28-second lap. Slay was second fastest earning the outside front row as the top eight qualifiers were locked into the field.

The three Cliburn Tank Lines B-Main events were run with Phillip Cooper, Chris Wall, and Josh Fuller taking the B-Main wins. Completing the 22-car starting field was MSCCS provisional David Breazeale and track provisional Pat Nichols.

The 50-lap main event would have the reigning Mississippi State Champion Slay jump to an early lead and go the distance to take his first MSCCS win of the 2004 season along with the point’s lead. Dennis Duncan had a great run with a second place finish while Mike Boland was the man on the move earning the Hard Charger Award of the night coming from 14th starting position to finish 3rd. Completing the top five were defending SCMP Track Champion George Paul and Meridian’s Rodney Wing.

Rounding out the top ten finishers were Phillip Cooper, top Brown Engineering Rookie finisher Chris Wall, fellow rookie contender Josh Fuller in eighth, with Jason Cliburn and Steve Bynum picking up top ten runs as well.

The next stop on the MSCCS tour will be on Saturday night April 10th at the ¼-mile semi banked oval of Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Mississippi featuring a 50-lap $2,500 and $300 to start main event. Action will consist of Brown Engineering Pole Qualifying locking in the top eight qualifiers with positions 9 through 20 set by Cliburn Tank Lines B-Main events plus two provisionals to complete the 22 car starting field.

Simpson County Motorsports Park is located south of Jackson, Mississippi. The track is located south of Jackson on I-55 to exit 85, then 0.7 mile east on Siwel Rd. to Old Byram Rd., then .4 miles north, then east. Pit gates will open at 3:00pm.
