CLARKSVILLE, TN – The growing wave of Crate Late Model racing in Mississippi continues to roll, as StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series officials have announced that Southern Speedway in Hattiesburg has joined the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series as a Friday night track.
Southern Speedway joins Mississippi tracks Pike County Speedway in Magnolia, Swinging Bridge Raceway in Jackson, Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Columbus Speedway and Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus in the West Region of the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series.
Other tracks in the StormPay.com West Region are Malden Speedway in Malden, MO, Clarksville StormPay.com Speedway in Clarksville, TN, and Thunderhill Raceway in Lawrenceburg, TN.
Drivers competing in the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series Crate late Model Division on Friday nights at Southern Speedway will earn not just track points, but also West Region points, and be eligible for both the track and regional point funds. The StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series takes place over a 24-week period; with a drivers’ top 16 finishes counting towards their point total.
The top two point drivers from Southern Speedway at season’s end will be eligible to compete in the $5,000-to-win StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series National Champion Race on December 15 at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL.
The StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series cars are dirt late models powered by economical GM Performance Crate Engines. The engines are built and sealed at the factory with special bolts that prohibit any costly modifications. The aluminum-head 604 engine costs under $5,000, and the 602 steel-head engine costs under $3,000. That’s one-tenth the cost of an unlimited late model engine.
