TULSA, OK - An impressive points fund structure for the Sprint Bandits inaugural season was announced from the series head office today. The Sprint Bandits points fund for 2004 could amount to as much as $100,000, plus contingencies, provided the full, targeted slate of 25 events is met.
"For a new series, being the first year out, I really think an average of $4,000 per race going to the points fund is a strong figure," commented Sprint Bandits President and founder Emmett Hahn. "On a per- race basis, this points fund compares favorably with any other sprint car series out there."
A $100,000 points fund based on 25 events is equivalent to $4,000 in points fund money per event, not including contingencies. In the event that fewer than 25 point events are completed in 2004, the total points fund payout will be prorated. For example, if 21 points races are completed in 2004, the total points fund will be $84,000 (21 races x $4,000 = $84,000).
The final top twelve in 2004 Sprint Bandits points will be eligible for the season-ending points fund payout, with the champion collecting 25% of the total. The breakdown, by percentage, of the 2004 Sprint Bandits point fund will be as follows: champion = 25%; second = 15%; third = 12%; fourth = 10%; fifth = 8%; sixth = 7%; seventh = 6%; eighth = 5%; ninth = 4%; tenth = 3.5%; eleventh = 2.5%; twelfth = 2.0%.
"With what we already have booked plus a few races in which we're trying to determine the most appropriate date before we announce them, we're just a handful of races short of 25 right now," Hahn said. "I'm sure that we'll get 25 races. But, in the event of weather preventing us from getting all 25 in, the prorate of the points fund along with the percentage breakdown by position lets our racers know exactly what they're racing for in terms of point fund money at the end of the year."
A large field of cars is expected to be on hand for the Sprint Bandits series debut at the Devils Bowl Speedway's 31st Annual Spring Nationals in Mesquite, TX, on March 19-20. Two-day shows such as the Devil's Bowl Speedway opener will count as two events, as full points are awarded for each night of racing. The wingless challenge event versus USAC at Memphis Motorsports Park on May 7 will not count as a point event toward the points fund.
The March 27 date originally slated for Delta Bowl Speedway in Tunica, MS, has been currently removed from the schedule. An alternate date later in the season will be announced soon.
Additionally, Oklahoma Citys State Fair Speedway is set to host the Sprint Bandits on Sunday, July 4, while Devils Bowl Speedway will host the Sprint Bandits again on October 16.
