Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 6, 2019) - Trey Starks earned his career-best 410ci winged sprint car result at Knoxville Raceway last Saturday.

The Gobrecht Motorsports driver finished ninth, which surpassed his previous best outing in the division of 13th.

"I flew in Friday and we practiced that night," he said. "We knew we had some things to work out. We made some laps and tried some things we'd probably never try because they were a little aggressive. We learned a ton of stuff and we used a lot of that on Saturday. We were leaps and bounds ahead of where we were in the opener."

Starks was the final driver to qualify on Saturday and he posted a seventh-place time. He then finished fifth in a heat race to rank eighth in overall points.

"We drew the last pill for qualifying, but we had a pretty fast car," he said. "We laid down a decent lap and that gave us a good amount of points. We got racing a little in the heat and lost a spot, but we were solid. That gave us a decent starting spot for the main event."

Starks lined up eighth and quickly moved into sixth. He battled for a top five for most of the first half of the feature.

"Just as the red came out we passed two cars on the top that would have put us fourth, but since the red came out before a lap was completed that put us back to sixth," he said. "After that red we may have sealed the tires over a little. We didn't get a good restart and got racing and got shuffled back. I needed to get my wing back and we started to lose a bit of grip. We could have been better at the end, but we were a lot better than we were two weeks ago and we still know what we need to work on to get better. We're moving in the right direction."

Starks recorded a ninth-place finish.

"We were missing a lot during the opener two weeks ago," he said. "We closed the gap a lot. I think we could be competing for a top five. We're down to fine-tune adjustments now to get us into the top three and then that first win."

Starks, who ranks 12th in the championship standings at Knoxville Raceway, is scheduled to return to the track this Saturday.
