FARMINGTON, Mo. (October 2, 2004) – Shane Stewart raced from the sixth starting position to overtake Tim Montgomery for the lead at the midpoint en route to topping Saturday night’s 30-lap Queen’s Royale main event at St. Francois County Raceway. Stewart’s ninth feature victory of the 2004 season was worth $3,500.

“I have to hand it to my crew, they changed just about everything on the car a couple of times tonight and the mIn Maxim was right on the money in the feature,” Stewart commented in victory lane. “This is a tricky racetrack, and to beat both the Montgomery boys here is a real accomplishment.”

The winner of the evening’s fifth and final heat race for the 41-car field, Stewart earned the third row outside starting position by advancing from seventh to sixth in the 10-car dash, in which Joey Montgomery beat brother Tim to the line.

While Tim Montgomery outgunned Joey Montgomery for the early lead in the feature, Stewart steered Scott Chilcutt’s Wesmar-powered mIn Motorsports Management/Rudeen Racing No. 4m Maxim into fourth by the time the red flag flew on the fourth lap for Jason Hunt’s turn four tumble.

Stewart made quick work of Jerrod Hull and Joey Montgomery after the restart to take over second, then set his sights on pacesetter Tim Montgomery. As the pair worked through traffic, Stewart ducked underneath T. Montgomery exiting turn four on the 12th round, only to have Montgomery successfully fend off the challenge.

Montgomery briefly opened up a five car-length edge before Stewart stormed back, successfully completing what proved to be the race winning pass on the low side as the pair raced off turn four to complete the 16th lap.

With the Sprint Bandits series Brodix spec-head under the hood, Stewart opened up a half straightaway advantage and took the checkered flag comfortably despite late lapped traffic that allowed T. Montgomery to narrow the gap. Tim Montgomery settled for second, with Joey Montgomery in the show position. Jerrod Hull crossed the stripe fourth, with Tommy Worley, Jr., rounding out the top five.
