CLARKSVILLE, TN – The StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Championship fight kicks into high gear this Saturday and Sunday nights with a visit to Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS for Round 11 of the 2006 season highlighted by a 60-lap $5,000-to-win main event. Along with the top prize, there will also be several contingency awards up for grabs.

Hog Chain Racing of Jackson, MS will pay $500 to the fast qualifier on Saturday night, and will add $500 to the winner’s share of the StormPay.com Lightning Quick 6 Dash that will now pay $700-to-win, also on Saturday night.

The heat race winners will line-up for the StormPay.com Lightning Quick 6 Dash, having already lined their respective pockets, as Triple A Diesel Service in Denham Springs, LA will award each heat race winner $100.

The top drivers in the Southeast will be vying for the top honors, and if a single driver can sweep the program with the Hog Chain Racing Fast Time Award, a Triple A Diesel Service Heat Race win, the StormPay.com Lightning Quick 6 Dash win, and the feature race win, that driver will take $6,300 to the bank.

The top three drivers in the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Touring point standings are within 50 points of each other coming into the Pike County Speedway event. Point leader Shannon Buckingham of Morristown, TN, second-place David Gentry of Lewisburg, TN, and third-place Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN have nine wins among them in the first ten races.

Buckingham, in only his second season of dirt late model racing, has three wins, and is the only driver in the series to have turned in top ten finishes in each race, with eight of those in the top five, and has completed every possible lap of competition in the first ten races. Buckingham, who also has three fast time awards, has accumulated 936 points.

Gentry is 46 points behind Buckingham, and also has three wins, including the last event on July 4 at Clarksville, TN’s StormPay.com Speedway. Gentry has seven top five finishes, and one fast time honor this season.

Johnson, a National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame inductee, is only four points behind Gentry. The “Chattanooga Flash” has three wins with five top five finishes, eight top ten finishes, and one fast time.

The “Jeff and Jeff Show” rounds out the top five of the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Touring point standings. Jeff Smith of Villanow, GA is fourth, 60 points behind Johnson, with six top fives, seven top tens, and one fast time. Jeff Fields of Aragon, GA is fifth, just 20 points behind Smith, with two top fives, seven top tens, and one fast time.

Frankie Beard of Hartwell, GA is the top Rookie of the Year candidate in the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Tour, and is sixth in the point standings. Beard had some early season success in a black #1 car with two top five finishes, and a fast time, but has struggled in the past few races since switching to a red #21 car. Will this be the weekend Beard is “Back In Black?”

Zach Nichols of Cedartown, GA has had a steady season to rank seventh in the point standings with one top five, and three top ten finishes in 10 starts. Another National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame inductee, Jeff Purvis of Clarksville, TN is eighth in the StormPay.com DLMS National points.

Purvis made a name for himself in dirt late model racing in the 1980s winning several national championships, and the prestigious World 100 race three times. He left the dirt tracks in the 1990s at the top of his game to give NASCAR a try, where he added even more success to his already impressive resume.

A hard crash that would have forced most drivers into retirement, ended Purvis’ NASCAR career, but he returned to dirt late models full time last season. Purvis is returning to his winning form with newfound success in the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series. Purvis has four top five finishes, six top ten finishes, and one fast time in ten starts this season.

Carnell Parker III of Clarksville, TN is ninth in the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Touring point standings with two top fives, and three top tens, and Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA rounds out the top ten with two top ten finishes.
