CLARKSVILLE, TN – After a six-week hiatus, the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Tour returns to action on Friday night, March 31 and Saturday night, April 1 with a $5,000-to-win event at Modoc Speedway in Modoc, SC. A field of over 50 Crate-engine Late Models piloted by a star-studded field of drivers is expected to battle for over $20,000 in cash and prizes.

Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN leads the entry list on top of the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National point standings after the first three points events of the 2006 season. Johnson has one win this season, coming at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS on January 21.

Johnson is looking to add a StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Championship to his already impressive resume that includes a pair of Dirt Track World Champion Race wins, Southern All-Star Championships, and multi-time top five finishes in the Hav-A-Tampa National Championship point standings.

These accomplishments have earned the “Chattanooga Flash” a seat in the prestigious National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame. But Johnson isn’t the only Hall of Fame driver headed to Modoc Speedway on March 31 and April 1.

Jeff Purvis of Clarksville, TN was one of the first inductees to the NDLMHoF in 2001. Purvis has won the prestigious World 100 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH three times, and has won National Championships with the NDRA and Southern All-Stars. Purvis is also a former NASCAR Winston Cup driver.

Jack Pennington of Winston, GA will be inducted into the NDLMHoF this year, and is still winning the big races in the Southeast. Pennington, who is also a former NASCAR Winston Cup driver, will be competing at Modoc along with his teenage son, Travis Pennington, who is looking to earn points towards the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series Rookie of the Year honors.

Several drivers are chasing Johnson for the top spot StormPay.com DLMS National point standings coming into the Modoc Speedway race.

Shannon Buckingham of Morristown, TN is second in the points chase. The Modified Lite graduate is only six points behind Johnson. Frankie Beard of Hartwell, GA is third in the point standings, and is the leading Rookie of the Year candidate after the first three races. Beard warmed up for the Modoc Speedway race with a win in weekly action there on March 24.

Jeff Fields of Aragon, GA, the 2005 StormPay.com DLMS National Championship Runner-Up, is fourth in points, and David Gentry of Lewisburg, TN is tied for the fifth spot with Jimmy Kay of Taylorsville, GA. Gentry won the season opener at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL on January 8, and is returning to the battle after missing the last point race.

The defending StormPay.com DLMS National Champion Denny Slayton of Rossville, GA is seventh in the 2006 points chase, while Carnell Parker of Clarksville, TN and Jeff Smith of Villanow, GA are tied for the eighth spot. Curtis Cline of Douglasville, GA rounds out the top ten in the StormPay.com DLMS point standings, and will debut a new car at Modoc.

Several more dirt late model “hot shoes” have declared their intentions on competing with the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series at Modoc Speedway on March 31 and April 1.

Marshall Green of Dalton, GA is another former Dirt Track World Championship Race winner, and Hav-A-Tampa race winner expected to compete in Modoc, SC. Dennis “Rambo” Franklin of Gaffney, SC will be looking for his second StormPay.com DLMS win of the season at Modoc. Franklin won round three at Golden Isle Speedway in Brunswick, GA on February 4.

Keith Nosbisch of Valrico, FL won a pair of StormPay.com DLMS non-point races on February 12 and 13 at his home track, East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL. The multi-time East Bay track champion will be making a rare road trip to Modoc, SC on March 31 and April 1.

Other top entries expected include Frank Ingram of Woodstock, GA, Owen Osteen of Woodruff, SC, Michael Page of Douglasville, GA, Zach Nichols of Cedartown, GA, Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA, Jeff Jones of Dalton, GA, Matt Barrett of Knoxville, TN, Brandon Rose of Columbus, GA, Rodney Martin of Cartersville, GA, Lee Sutton of Taylorsville, GA, Jordy Nipper of Gray, GA, and local favorite Casey Roberts.

The big attraction for the Hall of Famers, the seasoned veterans of dirt late model racing, and the young up-and-coming drivers that compete on the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series is the level playing field provided by the GM Performance Crate engines.

The dirt late models, called Crate Late Models, in the StormPay.com DLMS features economical engines produced by GM Performance and sealed at factory. The drivers are not permitted to break the seals in an effort to gain a horsepower advantage through expensive modifications.

The steel-head “602” engine sells for $2,950, and the aluminum-head “604” engine sells for $4,950, with free delivery for either engine. These engines are race-ready right out of the crate from the factory, and are readily available at GM dealerships nationwide.

On Friday night, March 31, the StormPay.com DLMS machines will begin the competition with Qualifications to determine the starting line-ups for the Heat Races. The six Heat Race winners will then line-up for the StormPay.com Lightning Quick 6 Dash to determine the top six staring spots for the $5,000-to-win 50-lap main event.

The $5,000-to-win 50-lap feature race will be run on Saturday night, April 1, along with the B-Main events. Modoc Speedway will also run their weekly racing Divisions on each night. Modoc Speedway will also be hosting a special Open Practice on Thursday night, March 30 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Hampton Inn in Augusta, GA will be the Official Host Hotel for the StormPay.com DLMS race at Modoc Speedway. The Hampton Inn will be giving StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series fans and competitors a special discount rate of $69.00 plus tax per night.

The Hampton Inn is located just off I-20 at Exit 199 at 3030 Washington Road in Augusta, GA. To make reservations, call 706-737-1122 and be sure to ask for the special StormPay Racing discount rate of $69.00 per night.
