CLARKSVILLE, TN – Officials from Malden Speedway in Malden, MO and the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series have agreed to cancel the $5,000-to-win October 6-7 Cotton Bowl due to economic reason. The track has been trying to build its Crate Late Model Division this season, but that effort has been slowed by bad weather and a slow economy.

StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series Director Mike Vaughn said despite the cancellation of the National Touring event, the series will continue to work with the Malden Speedway through the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series in an effort to build the track’s Crate Late Model Division.

“Phil Santee and his staff have really had an uphill climb this season with seven rainouts, and high fuel prices that has effected the growth of the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series Division there,” Vaughn said. “With the high cost of fuel, and the long distance teams would to travel, we felt we might not have a sufficient car count for a successful event. We still see a lot of potential at Malden Speedway, and we’ll continue to sanction the tack in 2007, and try again to host a National Touring event there in the future.”

In place of the StormPay.com National Touring event, Malden Speedway will host a pair $1,200-to-win Crate Late Model events on October 6 and 7. The tire rule will be American Racer 56 Spec/Crate, Hoosier 55 WRS-2, and Goodyear G50.

“The Crate Engine concept is still in the growing phase, and Malden Speedway was the first track in its area to go with the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series,” Vaughn said. “There is a lot of interest in Crate Late Models in this region, and we will be working to get more tracks in the area to go with Crate Late Models in an effort strengthen the base of these cars around Malden Speedway.”

Vaughn said the top six drivers at Malden Speedway are going to be invited to the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series National Championship Race on December 14 at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL.

“The competitors in the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series Division at Malden Speedway are good racers, and the top six drivers in weekly points from the track will represent them well at the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series National Championship Race in December at East Bay Raceway Park,” Vaughn said. “I think after this season, a lot of other racers in several other divisions at Malden Speedway, and at other tracks around that area, will see the benefits of competing with the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series, and they will jump on board next year.”

The next two events for the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Tour will be a $2,500-to-win event at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL this Saturday night, and a $2,500-to-win event at Crossville Raceway in Crossville, TN on September 29.
