KASSON, Minn. (July 14) – The United States Modified Touring Series stormed into the Dodge County Speedway on Wednesday evening for the inaugural Thunderbird Open and the kick-off to the 153rd Dodge County Fair.
But Mother Nature’s curse continued and the mud-slinging Modifieds of the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour quickly stormed right back out of town when thunderstorms packing heavy rain stopped the show just after the heat races were completed.
With all qualifying events completed, the show was deemed unfinished business. The Real Racing Wheels “B” Mains and WIX Filters “A” Main will be made-up on Sunday, Sept. 5.
Fans that come to the “Kasson Klash” during Labor Day Weekend will get to see a complete show that will be a part of the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Championship plus the bonus of the make-up races.
Drivers that were not in attendance Wednesday night may purchase a pit pass, pay the entry fee and start at the rear of the field in one of the Real Racing Wheels “B” Mains on Sept. 5. For competitors that were on hand Wednesday, they will receive 45 show-up points for the event in the Yeager Machine Upper Midwest Region. Additional points earned at the Sept. 5 event will be added to the each driver’s total points for the region, but will not affect the base points earned for those that are qualified for The Hunt.
The Countdown to The Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Championship continues on Thursday at the North Central Speedway in Brainerd, Minn., with another $2,000 top prize on the line.
Thursday’s show at Brainerd will be the first live taping of action for the upcoming Dirt Knights reality TV show to be aired on the VERSUS Network in January 2011. Film crews will be present at a handful of races leading up to the start of The Hunt on Aug. 12, and will be recording all of the action from then until the final checkered flag drops at the 12 Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree on Saturday, Sept. 25.
Located just a few miles south of Brainerd, the North Central Speedway is a 1/3-mile semi-banked oval situated at the center of a state-of-the-art facility boasting 31 fully enclosed and air-conditioned suites for full racing enjoyment. For race fans that prefer a trace of soil in their beverages, there are bleachers and full concessions on both sides of the track with seating for over 6,000 fans.
Sponsored by Bob’s Building Supply, the Battle at Brainerd will also feature Wissota Super Stocks and Street Stocks. Pit gates open at 4 p.m., grandstands open at 5, hot laps are at 6:15 and racing begins at 6:45.
Fans can pick up $2-off discount coupons at Casey's General Stores locations in Little Falls, Long Prairie, Milaca and Wadena. To learn more about Casey's General Stores, or to find the location nearest you, check out www.caseys.com online.
The Brainerd Lakes area is a popular tourist destination with plenty of fun and adventure for the whole family before and after the races. Check out www.explorebrainerdlakes.com for more information.
The North Central Speedway is a semi-banked 1/3-mile clay oval located 5 miles south of Brainerd at the junction of US 371 and Bus 371. For more information, visit the track's website at www.racencs.net or call 218-839-9280. Race day information is available by calling the track hotline at 218-829-1545.
All USMTS rules apply. Tires allowed are the American Racer KK704, IMCA-stamped Hoosier G60 or the Wissota Hoosier H40. All four tires used must be the same manufacturer and product number.
Following the Battle at Brainerd, a one-of-a-kind event is in store for both fans and drivers on Friday and Saturday as the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour invades the famed Elko Speedway in Elko, Minn., as the historic asphalt track is transformed into a dirt gridiron for the 2nd Annual AMSOIL Dirt Nationals. Friday night's main event will pay $2,000 to win while Saturday night's victor will pocket $3,000. The Dirt Knights film crew will also be on location for both nights at Elko.
