BRING BACK THE UMP STREET STOCKS THEN RUN A SERIES, GET RID OF THE LIMITED LATE MODELS WITH SMALL TIRES. IF YOU WANT TO DRIVE A LATE MODEL THEN DO IT.

jimmy

your car was one of the few cars that would be legal, there is no way you could of won the brwnstown race like it was, but you are very fast, i really liked your car, the way these cars are set up is pretty close to late models. i just miss the old ump street stocks, i have a car just like yours for bombers, and have a street stock just like yours thats very fast. i just wouldnt run my motor against these cars cause the odds are against you. good luck next year.

the ump streetstocks should be brought back or something like them. streetstocks don't have pull bars and j-bars.

now wait a minute

Jimmy has a fast car granted. He is also a good driver (even though I give him grief constantly about it). the only difference in his car and ours is the outside sheet metal. He had more or less a stock body on his where we had an aftermarket (homemade) body. If i am not mistaken he has a floater rear end ( just like us) a bigger motor (406 to our 350) and he had a lightend clutch ( at times) he uses a pull bar not a four link suspension, and I think a J bar where we used a short bar or straight bar instead. His cage was offset and layed back ( maybe not quite as much as ours) and he was almost as light (before lead ) as any of the new styles are.

Jimmy if I am wrong on any of this you know I will apologize in front of anyone but please just because he used a stock appearing body doesn't mean he was lacking anything that the others had except maybe a bert or brinn transmission.

From what I hear ( grapevine) he will have an aftermarket body on his racecar this year not wanting to go through all of the hassles that trying to keep a stock appearing body entails.

But I also would love to see a set of rules adopted that would be consistant from track to track like UMP has done with the Late Models and the modifieds.

It is my understanding that the reason UMP did away with their street stock class was because of lack of support. Of all the drivers to score points the year that they were sanctioned, maybe 10% bought a membership. Looking at UMP's side of the story, it wasn't worth the hassle of keeping them around if the drivers weren't going to support them. If they were to try again, a mandatory membership should be required. Personally, I don't see it happening.

I WOULD LIKE TO GO STREET STOCK NEXT YEAR, BUT THE RULES DO VARY. SOME ALCOHAL SOME GAS , I HAD MY FIRST DRIVING EXPERENCE IN A UMP STREET STOCK, I JUST WOULD LIKE TO DO IT AGAIN WITH THE EXPERENCE I HAVE, THANKS FOR ALL THE INPUT, AND YES JIMMY IS A GOOD DRIVER. BUT IF I HAD TO FIX ONE UP LIKE THE WAY THEY ARE I WOULD RACE STEEL BLOCK

I have a stock 64" wide ford rear end and stock upper a frames in stock location. And the body was atleast 100 heavier than a aluminum body. And I only had a 406 for about 3 nights at Belleville.

The rules don't vary that much around here as far as the chassis goes. The biggest difference is in the motors. Really Allied is the odd man out there. Godfrey and Tri City are nearly the same. Highlands rules are a little screwy, but the full frame cars should still be the way to go. Brownstown and Highland are the same for the most part. The problem they had with the UMP Street Stocks was you had to few tracks running them and to many promoters not wanting to give up control of the only class they still could keep under they're thumb. If UMP could come up with a decent set of rules and get all UMP tracks to go with it I think you would see a dramatic rise in car counts. Plus it would be nice to know what the rules are going to be before the middle of December or January.
