Sunday night at Double-X Speedway was full of surprises! From flyin’ flames to bumpin’ bumpers, Double-X fans left the track knowing they got what they paid for – a night of fun, action and satisfaction!
California’s own Randy Martin raised the fans Sunday night when he took first place honors in the 360 Winged Springs feature race. Jesse “The Rocket” Hockett was forced to pull out of the feature race after his car caught fire. At that point in the race, Martin was following in a close fourth. With only 9 of 25 laps complete, Hockett’s exit brought Martin into third place. It wasn’t long before Martin blew past Jonathan Cornell and Tyler Blank making his way to the front of the stretch to bring home the first place win. Martin was followed by Cornell, Sedalia; Blank, California; Curtis Evans, Norborne; and Lanny Carpenter of Clarksburg.
Cornell and Carpenter claimed the first place spots in the 360 Winged Sprints heats.
The top five point leaders are: Evans, 330; Martin, 324; Curtis Boyer, 308; Blank, 306; and Cornell, 265.
The Street Stock heat winners were Ted Welschmeyer, Tebbets and John Clancy Jr., California. Clancy held tight to his first place spot during the Street Stock feature race pulling in a number one win.
A couple of yellow flags didn’t stop Clancy’s hold on the lead but Harlan “Boy” Dowell experienced a slight bit of trouble on the fourth turn when a clip of the bumper threw him off track and caused a piece of car to ride the driver’s side of car number 31 driven by Brant Koetting of Jefferson City. Koetting carried the piece for a complete lap before heading to the pits to have it removed.
Dowell stayed in the race falling to 7th place but that didn’t hinder his fans from cheering him on! Ray Smith, Centertown rolled in a close second followed by John Brooks, Warrensburg; Welschmeyer; and Kevin Caldwell of Tipton. The top five point leaders are; Ray Smith, 358; Dowell, 350; Clancy, 348; Tim Cressley, 296; and Caldwell, 282.
The Hobby Stocks heat winners Sunday night were Mike Barton of Eldon and Luke Skidmore of Green Ridge. However, it was Sedalia’s Jeremy Gordon who pulled into the number one spot in the Hobby Stocks feature race securing the win for the night.Gordon was followed by Skidmore in a close second; Mike Schrader, Sedalia; David Martz, Sedalia; and Allen Guthrie of Raymore.
The top five point leaders are: Skidmore, 376; Schrader, 320; Gordon, 316; Martz, 294; Bridget Clifford, 256.
Race kids of the night were Bailey Elliott, California; Jordyn Winter; California; William Potter, Jefferson City; Lilly Barrioz, Jefferson City; and Johnna Dowell of Clarksburg.
Attendance prizes were given to Chance Crabtree, Crocker; Diana Loesing, Boonville; Alara Wilbers, Centertown; Richard Champney, McGirk; Alisha Miller, California; Steven Clutter, Tipton; and Bill Durham, Marshall.
Sue Livengood of Kleiver, was the winner of Double-X Speedway’s first 'Race Fan of the Week' photo.
