GATEWAY, TOP DRIVERS SET TO APPEAR AT 7TH CARDINALS WINTER WARM-UP JAN. 18-20

MADISON, Ill. (Jan. 6) – There will be a new twist to this year's Cardinal Winter Warm-Up, an annual celebration of the coming of spring in St. Louis. A very fast new twist.

For the first time, Gateway International Raceway – another great part of a sporting summer in St. Louis – will have a presence at the annual Cardinals' Winter Warm-Up, set for Jan. 18-20 at the Millennium Riverfront Hotel.

Like the Cardinals, Gateway will bring several of its top performers – Kenny Wallace (Jan. 19), Robby McGehee (Jan. 18) and Carl Edwards and Hall of Famer Jerry Haas (both Jan. 20) to meet and greet fans and sign autographs during the event..

They will join the majority of this year's Cardinal roster, including Scott Rolen, Matt Morris, Edgar Renteria and Jason Isringhausen and Hall-of-Famers Stan Musial, Lou Brock, Bob Gibson, Red Schoendienst and Ozzie Smith at the Warm-Up. Proceeds from the event go to Cardinals Care, the team's charity foundation.

"We are delighted to be a part of a great event that raises money for a great cause, and honored that the Cardinals – the sporting icon in this area – has invited us to be a part of the festivities," said Gateway Vice President and General Manager Matt Strelo – who started his sports career with the Oakland A's and worked with current Cardinals General Manager Walt Jocketty and Manager Tony LaRussa.

"Cardinal baseball and Gateway racing are two of the best things about the sports year in St. Louis, and it's great to be working together to get fans thinking about the start of the season – which isn't far away!"

The Gateway exhibition, featuring show cars, will be located in the Chouteau Room, located just as you enter the Millenium's Exhibition level off the escalators.

On Saturday, Jan. 18, the Gateway exhibit will feature a visit by Robby McGehee of Chesterfield, Mo. – who drove the St. Louis Cardinals special in his debut IRL IndyCar Series event at Gateway two years ago. He is aiming to improve on that 10th place finish in this year's Gateway Indy 250 Aug. 9-10.

On Sunday, Jan. 19 it will be Kenny Wallace of St. Louis, one of the most popular drivers in the NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series. He will be here to race May 9-10 in the Gateway Indy 250, which will be on an off-weekend for the Winston Cup Series. Several other Cup stars, including defending champ Greg Biffle, are expected to be at Gateway to challenge the Busch Series regulars.

On Monday, Jan. 20, fans can meet one of the up-and-coming talents in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Carl Edwards of Columbia, Mo., and Drag Racing Hall-of-Famer Jerry Haas of Fenton, Mo. Edwards will race for Foristell, Mo.-based Mittler Bros. Racing in the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers Ram Tough 200 on July 18-19. Haas, now one of the Pro Stock top chassis builders in the nation has his big weekend at Gateway June 27-29 in the Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals.

The final schedule of appearance times for the drivers will be announced this week. As with the players, there will be a specific additional donation for autographs and photos – with all the money going to Cardinals Care's many programs for youth and families in the St. Louis area.

There will also be Q&A sessions with all the drivers in the Choteau Room, during which fans can also ask questions of the racing stars.

"The Cardinals are pleased to add a new dimension to the Winter Warm-Up," said Tim Hanser, Executive Director of Cardinals' Care. "We welcome these drivers, who are terrific Cardinals fans, and all their great racing fans to our event."

Three-day admission tickets for the event are $30 for adults, and $10 for children 5-15. They can be obtained by calling the Cardinals at (314) 421-3060 or online at www.stlcardinals.com.
