Kansas City, KS (October 2nd, 2009)- Springfield, Missouri's Terry Phillips captured night #1 of the O'Reilly MLRA Clyde Ellis Late Model Showdown at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS. Arlington, Ohio's Matt Miller was second with Marquette, Nebraska's Kyle Berck finishing in third. Welcome, North Carolina's Dale McDowell rallied from his 18th starting position to finish in fourth with Franklin, Pennsylvania's Matt Lux rounded out the Top 5. Sixth through tenth were Rylan Long, Kurt Kile, Denny Woodworth, David Turner, and Matt Johnson respectively. John Anderson had mechanical difficulties early in the race after contact with the Turn 2 wall ultimately resulting a second consecutive 22nd place finish. Al Purkey rallied from an early pit stop to finish in 10th taking the point lead from Anderson. Purkey leads by just 4 points over Anderson with 2 races remaining.

Payne and Phillips shared the front row as the 26 car field stormed to the green flag but it was Phillips taking the point to lead the opening lap. Payne returned the favor to take the lead on Lap #2 as there was plenty of 3 and 4 wide racing throughout the field in his rear view mirror. Matt Miller ran third in the early going with Anderson in fourth and Rookie Matt Johnson in fifth. A Caution for debris on lap 5 reset the field as Payne continued to lead with Miller now up to second and Phillips in third.

A second caution flag flew on Lap 7 for a spin on the backstretch by Kurt Kile and Chris Simpson. Al Purkey also pitted under the caution and returned at the rear of the field. Payne continued to lead as the laps clicked off but Omaha, Nebraska's John Anderson jumped the cushion in Turn 2 ending his night after contact with the wall. The field settled into a solid run of green flag laps before a final restart on Lap 27 would decide the outcome of tonight's event. The single file restart had Payne leading with Phillips second but as the field roared down the backstretch, apparent contact between teammates Phillips and Payne sent Payne into a spin and stopping on the backstretch. Payne retired to the pits as his night was over. A torried battle between Phillips and Miller was settled by Phillips as he crossed the line in first for the $3,000 winner's share of the money.

Phillip's GRT Chassis is Powered by a Hatfield Racing Engine with sponsorship support from Andy's Frozen Custard, Don Babb Motorsports, New Vision Graphics, and Integra Shocks/Springs. The Feature was worth $3,000 to win.

Heat Race Winners included Jeremy Payne, Matt Miller, Matt Johnson, John Anderson, and David Turner. Consolation Race Wins were captured Keith Foss and Dale McDowell. MLRA Provisionals were awarded to Joe Kosiski and Bryant Goldsmith. The MLRA Rookie of the Race went to Archie, Missouri's Matt Johnson.
