Inside Line Promotions - MERCER, Pa. (June 3, 2014) - Joe Trenca is riding high after his best career weekend as a sprint car driver.
Trenca recorded a pair of top 10s, including his first-ever top five, during a Patriot Sprint Tour doubleheader.
"It definitely feels good to finally get a top five," he said. "We've been fast every week. We just have to get a little luck on our side and we did last week."
Trenca started the weekend last Friday by winning his heat race during his first career visit to Raceway 7 in Conneaut, Ohio.
That earned him enough points to advance into the feature redraw, where he pulled the highest number - eight - to start on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.
"I jumped the cushion the first lap in turns one and two," he said. "I went down into turns three and four and jumped it again."
Trenca dropped to around 13[sup]th[/sup] before rallying back into the top five. After missing the bottom groove late in the race, Trenca lost a couple of positions to post an eighth-place result.
"It was pretty fun," he said. "It was definitely cool to get on the right track. We were fast, just a few driver errors. We're definitely running better."
The weekend concluded on Saturday at Mercer Raceway Park, where Trenca finished fifth in his heat race after starting sixth.
"The night started off tough," he said. "It was a fast place early so it was tough to pass on."
Trenca then ended where he started - fifth - in the dash to line himself on the inside of the seventh row for the 25-lap feature.
"We had a really good start," he said. "We were up to 9[sup]th[/sup] on the second lap and I started picking off cars one by one. We had a restart with about five laps to go and I got by one car coming out of turn two and another car I put a slide job on to take away fifth."
Trenca was within striking distance of a podium finish before capping his night with a fifth-place result.
The Mucci Motorsports team will tackle a URC tripleheader in Pennsylvania this week, which begins on Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown. On Friday the team will race at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg before wrapping up the weekend on Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove.
