Inside Line Promotions - VERNON, N.Y. (Sept. 9, 2014) - Joe Trenca is gearing up for the 10[sup]th[/sup] annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals this weekend.
The $12,000-to-win Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints and Patriot Sprint Tour event is hosted by Ohsweken Speedway in Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada, which is one of Trenca's favorite tracks.
"We've been there twice for the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals and each year we've missed it by just one spot," he said. "It's a tough show to make. There's 70 good, good cars. We've had good speed up there. I'm hoping for a good qualifying night on Friday to set me up for Saturday."
Trenca, who has two top 15s in as many races at Ohsweken Speedway this season, is coming off a disappointing result during the $10,000-to-win Cole Cup at Utica-Rome Speedway last Saturday.
"There wasn't a lot of passing all night," he said. "Starting position was pretty big."
Trenca qualified ninth quickest in his group, which lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for his heat race. He picked up a couple of positions, but was unable to advance into the main event. That started him third in a B Main.
"We just ran third the whole time," he said. "There was a late caution. We got underneath second place and going down the backstretch I got chopped and had to check up so I didn't hit the infield tire. It was for a transfer position. I don't really blame the guy."
Trenca finished third in the B Main to miss a transfer by only one spot.
"It was a very disappointing night, especially at a big show," he said. "Hopefully we can make up for it this weekend at the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals."
